Daniel Thomas is steadily average. When he was drafted he was expected to take ahold of the starting position eventually, but he has not lived up to his 2nd round draft status. He's been a tough runner, but he isn't the touchdown machine he was in college.

Quote:
Daniel Thomas is Dolphins' No. 2 back

No mystery around the Dolphins’ running back job: Lamar Miller said he has been with the first team all offseason, with Daniel Thomas running No. 2.

As the Miami Herald writes, there's "no mystery" about the Dolphins' tailback depth chart. Lamar Miller is locked in as the first-teamer, with Thomas No. 2 and rookie Mike Gillislee attempting to hold off longer-shot competitors like Jonas Gray for the third-string job. Gillislee could make a move on Thomas in training camp, but Thomas won't be making a move on Miller.

I think you're right. We'll probably see Thomas in short yardage situations and near the goal line until Gilleslee proves reliable for us.

Thomas had a lot of potential coming out of college:

Quote:
Thomas the combination of size, strength, burst and vision to become a solid NFL starting running back. A lot of his production comes in-between the tackles, picking his lanes, bursting through the hole, staying behind his pads and finishing runs by falling forward for additional yardage. Good in short yardage and goal line situations. Has enough agility to shake some defenders, get the corner and get upfield but isn't a true home-run threat. Does a very good job in pass protection but may never become a difference-making pass-catching option at the next level. Thomas carries a second round grade and could contribute immediately.

I wasn't huge on his selection. IMO there were better players on the board. Even at RB.

My biggest complaint about Thomas is he backs into short yardage situations instead of putting his head down and hammering his way into the hole. My 2nd issue is he is very injury prone.

Daniel has not bee the back the Dolphins hoped he would be. The biggest injury concern now for Thomas is without a doubt concussions.

Concussions issues and RB are not a good combination. He may not have much more of a career left.

I said in my blog that Thomas would be in danger of losing his job to Gillislee. Looks like I might have actually known what I was talking about for once :-D

Much appreciated, I wouldn't want people to think that there might be a competent blogger out there :-)

Yup he regularly finishes his runs with his back facing the defense. Very frustrating.
