As with every conclusion that's drawn just four days into training camp, there's a disclaimer that says it's early and things could change.
But judging from what he's showed so far in OTAs (Organized Team Activities), mini-camp and training camp, Gibson will likely be an upgrade from Bess, who had 61 receptions for 778 yards and one touchdown last season.
Gibson, who totaled 51 receptions for 691 yards and five touchdowns last season with the Rams, had a seven-reception, 91-yard performance against the Dolphins in Miami's 17-14 victory over St. Louis.
Dolphins safety Reshad Jones remembers seeing Gibson operate. In fact, Gibson had a spectacular catch along the sideline against Jones in that game.
"He's very elusive, he's quick off the ball, and he's got great hands," Jones said.
Safety Jimmy Wilson is also impressed by Gibson.
"He's got good routes, and when the ball's in the air it doesn't matter if you're on him or not, he has a great way of adjusting to the ball and jumping and making plays on the ball," Wilson said. "And he has good hands."
Gibson, who was courted by the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans among others, said he decided Miami was the best fit for him after talking with Philbin and Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland. And that was after being offered more money from at least one other team.
"I think the best fit for me was here to win a championship," Gibson said. "And also help the offense. Other places I had opportunities, could have made more money but I think here was the best fit for me."
I think Gibson is like James Jones, a very nice 3rd WR.
also Marvin McNutt is impressing so far in camp.
