Analyzing the Dolphins draft: Week 12

It’s been a fascinating week. The Jets seemingly get stronger, whilst the Dolphins seem to be set on trading away not just LG Justin Smiley but Ronnie Brown and Ted Ginn for reported mid and later round picks respectively. Are we the new Cleveland Browns? Is this just addition by an awful lot of subtraction? What happened to the masterplan? Is there still a masterplan? If there is, it best be up on the white board in Jeff Ireland’s office along with the Dolphins draft board which is fully set at this point. But, even as I was writing this the news came through about the trade for Brandon Marshall which finally gives Chad Henne a legitimate target on the outside. No-one was going to pay the first round price, but two second rounders is a pretty decent deal. Given Miami’s drafting history, you could argue that we’ve just traded John Beck and Pat White for one of the top four or five wideouts in the game.
As for Ireland who pulled the trade off, he gave his usual draft free, draft press conference last week. And that’s quite literally all there is to report on that!
So for us today, in our penultimate 2010 edition, we’re going to go round by round and look at the sorts of players we think Miami will be targeting. For each pick in each round each of us have chosen a guy we like at that spot, a runner up if the guy we like is gone, the players we think Miami will pick and a guy we don’t want. This week it’s the six picks that make up rounds six and seven. Next week will be rounds 4 through to 1. Underneath will be the full list of player meetings and workouts and information on any guys we’ve shown an interest in during the past seven days that we’ve been able to confirm.
But we’ll kick off with the draft version of Pin The Tail on the Donkey where we all throw some names into a round and hope they stick. Here goes nothing:

Guys We Want: Chris has gone for a guy I rate much higher in Arizona State’s Chris McGaha
