Accidents happen. Hitting a guy in the knee should be an accident. Hitting a guy in the knee because you aren't big enough to wrap up and tackle him should not happen.

Football & knees have NEVER went together & they NEVER will.

You're right, you're never going to eliminate knee injuries. Just like you're never going to eliminate concussions. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to minimize them. There's no need to dive at a player's knees, no matter what position he plays.

He wasn't diving at his knees. He was diving at his legs. The timing of it all was the culprit. I guarantee that a Miami defender will take a players legs out during every game.

Its the nature of the beast.

This is why Bernard Pollard said the NFL will not exist in 30 Yrs. Fan now believe a tackle at the legs is a dirty play.

Taking a guys legs out is something someone does when they can't tackle the other person. It's always been a cheap move.

I'm sorry for Keller & Miami, but again each & every one of you would be defending a Miami DB if the role was opposite. Guaranteed.

The NFL is getting what they want. No head shots & frankly I would be taking legs out myself if I were a DB. Its the only way to be 100% sure of not getting fined for making a tackle.

The only thing cheap about the hit was

I'm being sarcastic towards the people (person) who are accusing him of intentionally trying to injure Keller.

So a defensive player doing what he can to bring down a much bigger player is a cheap move?

So what is he supposed to do? Do something he knows will fail? Yeah, that will earn him a roster spot...

No. I don't care if it's Dustin Keller, Jeff Cumberland (Jets), Zack Sudfeld (Pats), Scott Chandler (Bills), or anyone else, this type of hit should not be tolerated in the NFL. If they really care about a player's safety, they should protect EVERY player's knees, not just the QB

Maybe the NFL should considering two hand touch for all the people who think every NFL hit should happen without a player being hurt. I really enjoy people that sit back on the couch telling everyone else how a player should have done something when they have never done it themselves

Even with two hand touch, you might have a guy get a knee injury from planting too hard without being touched (see Jamal Anderson from the Falcons circa 1999). At that point, the NFL may eliminate cutting and running hard.

Eventually we may wind up watching NFL players playing video games rather than live football games.

I've seen a guy rounding 2nd base playing softball and blow out his knee by shortstop. Knees are funny like that, it can happen anytime.

In today society. That might actually sell. Each player controlling the video version of themselves.
Then your star QB could be a 420Lb man with potato chip crumbs on shirt. Open the NFL world up to many more people. Better competition.

Eventually players would start suing the NFL for thumb issues.

Hartline: "I'm not a defensive player, so I don't sit here and assume right off the bat. But what I do know is that I have a lot of good pros on my team and, from what they have said to me, is that (there) is no place for that in the game today."

I'd never defend that type of hit. Basically if the TE has a built up head of steam, then all is fair. If the guys back is to you...all I'm saying is tackle him like a man...not a wussy. You have all the momentum and angle, leverage...if you can't take a guy down with all that...quit.
