PHILBIN: LEFT TACKLE IS IMPROVING: No player was scrutinized more early in camp than left tackle Jonathan Martin. But Philbin said that Martin is “quietly improving.” “That’s probably a good thing for an offensive lineman. You don’t want to be noticed too much as an offensive lineman,” Philbin said. “I think the timing on his punch is getting better, his footwork is getting better. Again his continual work, he’s working hard at it he’s very detailed with his preparation.”

Pro Football Focus has charted Martin with 59 snaps through three preseason games. He's received an extremely positive grade, and has allowed just one sack. Martin hasn't faced any significant pass rushers, though.

No doubt I'm more comfortable with the idea of Martin being the left tackle now than I was at the start of camp, but I want to see him in a game that matters before I jump on the bandwagon.

It's good his name hasn't been called.

I will draw more though from the dress rehearsal game this weekend, since it'll be a much larger in-game sampling size.

The offensive line better learn how to stop the blitz...

he still hasn't faced any difficult pass rushers, so we'll see.

I'm not being a smart a$$, I really don't know, but did JJWatt play against him last week?

I don't know either .... but even if he did, we're not talking about a lot of snaps. That's why I'm curious to see how he holds up when he has to face better pass rushers for entire games.

Isn't JJ Watt a LE though? Would imagine Clabo was the matchup.

The Bucs should bring some heat this weekend. We'll see. It's week three so I imagine we'll get a pretty darn good look see.

I'd rather hear "he is doing well but we need to see him against better competition" than what we saw and heard last year....."he sucks even against weak competition"

It's improvement. I'll be happy with it and worry about the right side of the line at the moment.

the Bucs don't exactly have elite pass rushers either.
We'll see how he does against Jabaal Sheard week 1 and Robert Mathis week 2.
