:youwin:

He has got to be seeing things in practice because I don't see it in games.

Quote:
Asked if he believed Lamar Miller was "distancing himself" from Daniel Thomas, Dolphins OC Mike Sherman said "I don't get that (sense)," and reiterated he wants to continue using both backs.

Miller rushed 11 times for 62 yards and a touchdown Monday, Thomas, four times for five yards. Sherman must not be watching the same games as the rest of us, as the talent gap between his two backs was on full display against the Saints. Given the ball on 3rd-and-inches on the Dolphins' opening possession — a drive in which Miller had been chewing up yards — Thomas got slammed for a two-yard loss. He later failed to convert a goal-line carry. For the season, Miller is averaging 4.6 yards on his 43 carries, while Thomas has averaged 2.8 yards on his 25 totes. It's painfully clear Miller needs a bigger role while Thomas needs to be phased out, but the Dolphins appear poised to remain stubborn for the time being.

I can't possibly fathom how he could say that. Id say its a smokescreen of some sort but its not really fooling anyone. Anyone who watches just one quarter of dolphins football knows the two arent even in the same class.

Mike Sherman is starting to concern me big time with his play calling and evaluation of talent. I thought the Dolphins had a nice run game going and he abandon it.

For this OL to be effective, there needs to be balance. When Miami had to go straight pass game, that when hell broke loose with the OL.

Lamar Miller is clearly the better player and if used properly he could easily be a 1,000+ yard back.

This has got to be a lame smoke screen. Its obvious they want Lamar to feel like he needs to earn his spot. & Sherman probably thinks hes clever for not announcing his plans to the media. Hes just trying to play cool

but yeah. phinsfansc, the play calling is certainly lacking

I hate to use a Sparano quote, but it sure does fit here:

• Lamar Miller (11 carries, 62 yards) again outplayed Daniel Thomas (four carries, 5 yards) on Monday. But Philbin said Thomas played more in the second half because the Dolphins needed pass protection.

Does offensive coordinator Mike Sherman believe Miller is distancing himself from Thomas?

“I don’t get that [sense],” Sherman said. “We will continue the way we’ve been so far until someone really steps forward and makes that known to us.”

Coach Joe Philbin won’t listen to the noise from fans and analysts saying he should give Lamar Miller more carries and Daniel Thomas less.

...

But Philbin defended Thomas today, saying Miller has had better opportunities.

“Sometimes there’s better opportunities that arise for backs at different times,” Philbin said. “I believe we gave Lamar (in the Saints game) 11 carries. I believe Daniel had four, if I’m not mistaken. (Lamar) had almost three times as many touches on the ball. There was more opportunity to have more production. That’s the way the defensive calls shook out and the offensive calls shook out. (Lamar) had better opportunities and more room to run.”

Philbin on Tuesday said he was justified in using Thomas over Miller in the second half against New Orleans when the Saints started pouring on the points and the Dolphins had to pass the ball.

“It was a little more pass protection related than anything,” Philbin said. ...

Why do they lie to us? He had the majority of the snaps: 45 to 11.

Quote:
Lamar Miller played on 45-of-59 snaps in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.
Miller only saw seven touches in the game, but this usage was extremely encouraging. During the first four weeks of the season, he only played on 50.7 percent of the snaps. The massive bump suggests the Dolphins coaches might finally be starting to trust Miller in more situations, thus putting inferior talent Daniel Thomas (11 snaps) on the back burner. If you can grab Miller for pennies on the dollar right now, we'd pull the trigger.

Well they better start learning how to do a dump off pass in the flat or over the middle. Miller has been just standing there with no one near him on some of these pass plays. I realize you're looking for the big play but RT needs to go back to spreading the ball around and that includes Miller.

BTW, Thomas is grinder. He needs carries for his game. He'll never find success here but would be a great back on a lot of other teams. I said last year, he needs to be the guy on the field in the base offense and Miller they guy when they're throwing. I'm frankly tired of it being the other way around and watching Miami trying to throw a screen pass to Thomas only to watch him not have the speed to get upfield.

A grinder who doesn't break tackles. I'm not sure if I agree with you on that, Junkman. He looks like he should be one, but it never translates on the field.

Well, there were 2-3 games before his knee injury where he was running hard. I don't think he'l ever be that 10-15 carries guy who does it well with limited use. I think he needs carries and a lot of them. He'll never find them here. With that said, Bush didn't either.
