Darrius Heyward-Bey may be released prior to FA
Per Bleacher Report, he's predicted to be released prior to FA. He's 6'2, 216 and runs a 4.3, 40. In 2009, he was the taken as the 7th overall pick by the Raiders. In 2012, he had 41 rec, for 606 yds and 5 TD's. He was due to make $7.8 mil in 2013, his production does not justify that. Do we make a play for him and get out of the bidding war for Wallace. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1520422-10-big-name-nfl-players-who-should-be-released-prior-to-free-agency/page/7

Probably not....but I can definitely see this guy as a Patriot.

Everyone was scratching their heads at that pick by the Raiders. They had Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin available but drafted a raw receiver that still had a lot to learn.
I wouldn't be surprised that the Dolphins get Jennings and draft a WR in the first two rounds if the bidding for Wallace gets too much. I'm not sure about Heyward-Bey.

I thought I read where he struggled with the WC offense but Miami should be all over trying to bring the guy in. Their depth right now is Bess, Matthews, Binns, Tyms and Fuller. That's like an all star JV squad outside of Bess.

I know we hate Ireland's history of quantity over quality but what if Miami could get Heyward Bey, Jennings, re-up Hartline and spend a draft pick on a guy with more upside than Matthews? HB and Jennings combined might cost as much as Wallace. Just a thought.

As Jammer said, you basically have to ask yourself is he an upgrade? Yes he is...I would take him over all of them....yes guys, even Bess.

Just actually read the link and nowhere does it say he is set to be released, its only some writer saying he should be. I'm not saying it won't happen, but your title is very misleading.

Re: Darrius Heyward-Bey set to be released prior to FA
He would be a player worth keeping an eye on if he got cut, and there is probably a good chance because of his big contract.
After 6 & 26 catches in his 1st 2 years, he has had 64 catches for 975 yards in 2011, 41 catches for 606 yards in 2012. He averaged 15.2 & 14.8 yards per catch. He missed a few games with a concussion in 2012 after the helmet to helmet hit in the Pittsburgh game.
He was raw coming out of Maryland and the Raiders being the Raiders drafted him because of his great speed. He should have been a 2nd round pick at the earliest.
He is still only 25 years old and he very good size and great speed. I would be tempted to offer something in the 3-5 mill/per year range.

I agree Tony. That is why if he gets cut I'd have to think Ireland is pondering Heyward Bey and Hartline for the combined price of Wallace. You can still find a potential playmaker in the late 2nd early 3rd round to develop behind those guys and Bess.

Generally players are either released or they're not released, they don't go to an interim stage of "set to be released". I thought everyone understood that. Anyway, I changed the title to avoid any further confusion.

Re: Darrius Heyward-Bey may be released prior to FA
Heyward-Bey is an option to give Tannehill a deep threat and spread defensive coverage. We still need a true play-maker at WR. Even if we pick him up, we should still look hard at Jennings or Bowe. If that doesn't pan out, then I would expect our first round pick to be a WR.
