Ben Volin: Source says there's 0% chance Sean Smith returns
http://wqam.com/interviewsOn the radio today Volin told Joe Rose that a source told him there was a 0% chance he'd be back with Miami.

Yep, that's because he's priced him out of what we think he's work. However, a few other teams are willing to pay him as he would be a nice upgrade over what they currently have.

I think he might do well in a different system that does not ask him to make many decisions and has him play mostly man to man, jam at the line coverage.

That is possible, but anyone paying the kind of money expects is crazy. Only someone who has proven themselves to play at that leek should get paid like that. Even the top rookies got their compensation cut down because it is too much to pay for potential.

Which is why we are seeing players looking for more money, they voted to change the rookie wages in order for themselves to get more money when contracts are up. If another team feels that a player is worth paying to get then I cant hate the players and agents for seeking it. Its just that with Smith I feel we can replace him fairly easy and for less money, whether is bringing someone up who is on the roster, drafting a kid, or actually upgrading the position via FA. And there is no point getting in a contract negotiation with him as it just will have an impact on the market.

He's so big and uncoordinated that he gets turned around easily and loses sight of the ball.

I'm not too worried about losing Smith. There are plenty of cheaper better free agent options (ie Talib). While I would prefer we keep him, I'm completely against paying him anything more than $6M a season.
