NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah is "hearing a lot of buzz" about the Dolphins being interested in free agent Rashard Mendenhall.

Mendenhall is far from the top running back in the NFL and may not even be the best available in free agency, but he does have tread left and that might equate to production, if not talent. Again, any move to sign Mendenhall is contingent on Reggie Bush leaving Miami, but Mendenhall making Miami his next home is looking like a real possibility.

:yay:

I had Mendenhall in fantasy & he kicked butt ... in 2009 I think.

he suffered through a serious injury but as stated does not have alot of miles on him. I like the pairing with Miller. Both one-cut and go types that fit what we want. Not 'Dancing with the Stars' Bush.

The Fins are committed to getting Lamar Miller the football more, but they need an upgrade on Daniel Thomas behind him. Mendenhall should be affordable, is still only 25 years old, and produced behind awful offensive lines in Pittsburgh. He can also catch the football and pick up the blitz, and Miller remains incredibly raw in the passing game. Mendenhall would be a nice fit in Miami. His addition would likely spell the end of Thomas as a Dolphin.

Yes. Let's sign another torn knee candidate.

Yea, I would not want Adrian Peterson either. Torn knee means bad signing.

I think the Steelers are one of the better organizations (obviously) and they know their players better than anyone. I think they let guys go when they feel they are low in the tank or just problematic. Like I have been saying , I would not lose any sleep if we did not sign Wallace , Mendenhall or any of their free agents.

There is not an organization that has not made a mistake on personnel. The Steelers generally don't look to pay a player huge dollars with the exception of QB. They know they can't pay Mike Wallace or don't want to pay the type of money he is looking for. Wallace produced for Pittsburgh, and no one can argue that in trying to down what Miami is looking to do in signing him.

Mendenhall did make some rather stupid statements in regards to Bin Laden and he may have fell out of favor with the Steelers, but he is 25 years old and he is a talented back. And players today come back from ACL injuries with regularity. He is an upgrade over Daniel Thomas and he won't demand a big contract.

I'd like to see him in Miami if he can get healthy. He's a good back.

The Steelers are in a bad cap situation. That's why they are letting Wallace go.

Because all of them went on to be AP.

You won't know unless you try and if Miami signs him for a favorable deal, the guy is young and has produced in the NFL. If he becomes a star back again it could be a steal (depending on contract), if he flounders, well, we have certainly kicked the tires on plenty of players in the past.

Your back is Miller in 2013 .......... or did you not notice that yet? The team certainly has. Granted I'm not sold on him, but letting Bush go, they have effectively made it pretty clear.

I see that the featured back is tabbed as Miller, but Rashard can offer the power running better to offer the change of pace better than Daniel Thomas (IMO). Mendenhall (when healthy) has great speed when he hits the corner and still being only 25, injury or not, IF Miami can get him for a good deal, a guy like this could give the fins a nice 1-2 punch. I guess we shall see if Miami evens goes after the guy.

"Had" great speed. That remains to be seen post-injury. Regardless that is not where the team needs to spend its money and the likelihood of Mendenhall coming here to be a rotation back is extremely unlikely.

I agree Rock on the money spend and unless they get him extremely reasonable and the fact that he is trying to get back full strength, including his speed, the fins should pass. I am sure it is unlikely as well.

Tuesday cannot get here soon enough.

Nope, but you cannot discard them either. Frank Gore came out of college with two of them.

An ACL is not the kiss of death anymore.

I have no problem with looking at Mendenhall. For the right price, having him and Miller would certainly be a nice backfield. Plus he brings the experience in pass protection that Miller lacks.

Considering the nature of the position these days, you're better off drafting young talent (with a clean bill of health) than throwing money at them in free agency.

Not disagreeing, but if he can be had cheap for a year or two then I'm fine with him.

Can't argue against the productivity. Hasn't played very long and has huge stats for the Steelers. Can block, can catch, can move the chains. Like having Ricky back.

OK please post all the RB's in the last 10 years who've torn their knees up so we can get an actual perspective, not just the hanfdul you want to cherry pick your argument around.

why would I list runningbacks that were lousy before they tore their knees up?
I'm talking about top shelf backs like Mendenhall.

Are you implying top shelf RB's somehow recover better from knee tears?

The Denver Post reports that free agent Rashard Mendenhall is drawing interest from the Broncos.
Perhaps Mendenhall's market will be stronger than anticipated. The Dolphins have also shown a solid amount of interest, and we suspect the Cardinals have some too with former Steelers OC Bruce Arians now running the show. Per Denver beat writer Mike Klis, the Broncos' level of interest in Mendenhall is "hard to gauge." The addition of Mendenhall would likely lead to Willis McGahee's release.

He might get priced out of our range anyway

Mendenhaul, when healthy, can be tremendous. He does however have a history of injuries and if my memory serves me, has had some motivation issues. If that is the case, I don't know why we would want him if we didn't want VD?
At any rate, he would be an upgrade, in my opinion, over Daniel Thomas. When looked at from that perspective, and assuming he came cheaply, it would be a solid move and one that I'd be for.

I'm honestly shocked by this news... especially since we got rid of Davis and Marshall for "attitude problems".

I've read a few articles saying the main reason Pitt isn't bringing him back is because of his attitude. Should be interesting to see how they handle him, or if a change of scenery changes his tude.

Pretty sure he can manage. The guy brings fear to every qb. He brings all the other players on the defense to a new level.
