Post Re: Eric Winston visiting Phins
I'm not too sure what to think of Winston. He was good a couple of years ago, but looked anything but this last year. If we offer him a deal, I hope we offer him a one year deal where he has to prove himself. I'd much rather see the Dolphins take a RT in the 2nd round.

Perhaps looking at Winston gives us leverage in negotiations with Jake Long? Maybe Long wasn't happy with the Rams and is now back bargaining with us?

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Bernie Miklasz reports the Rams are in a "holding pattern" with free agent LT Jake Long, and waiting for Long to respond to their offer.
Proposals have been exchanged, now it's up to someone to budge. Most reports have indicated it won't be the Rams, who only want Long at their price. Long's "visit" is turning into an extended stay, but there should be a resolution by Friday. The smart money is on Long leaving South Beach for the Gateway City, but it's not a given.

The Rams want him, but at their price also.

The Miami Herald suggests the Dolphins as a possible landing spot for free agent RT Eric Winston.
When Winston was a free agent last year, he visited the Dolphins before signing with the Chiefs. Now the Dolphins are in need of a right tackle again, assuming they lose Jake Long and kick Jonathan Martin to left tackle. Pro Football Focus graded out Winston as the No. 9 right tackle in the NFL last season.

He played college ball at the U. If we don't work out a deal with Long I think Winston would be a good player to sign to a short term deal. He seems solid and would definitely fit the zone blocking scheme.
