CB Brent Grimes (ATL) Visiting Miami!

Quote:
Not only does Brent Grimes not have a deal with the Falcons, but he might have a new address soon.

The Dolphins announced they had Grimes in town for a free agent visit.

Miami needs to re-stock there after losing Sean Smith to Kansas City. The need is even more acute in Atlanta, after the Falcons released Dunta Robinson (who also signed with the Chiefs).

Grimes is in an interesting spot, hitting the market after missing last season with an Achilles injury, and being franchised-tagged the year before.

Are we even planning to utilize the draft...? Damn, save some cap to extend Reshad Jones and Starks.

If we extend/rework Starks I think his cap number would go down not up correct?

i would agree, but Rashad Jones' cap will skyrocket, and deservedly slow based on last season. His INT off Brady was masterful.

I know Superbowls are not won by what you do in March, but I love the way the Dolphins are attacking and fitting pieces to the puzzle to make this team better. A healthy Grimes would be a HUGE improvement at corner.

I think Jake Long is coming back too, that is my gut feeling. This team is on the upward swing and there is a buzz going on now in Miami!

The Dolphins have a need a CB, and Grimes is a very solid CB coming off an injury. It will probably be a 1 year deal like Keller signed.

Miami has guys who contract expire in 2013, so Ireland has done a nice job of setting the Dolphins up in regards to cap room in 2014.

I have no problem with what Ireland is doing, but obviously some are not.

I like this very much. Still lots of cap space, massive cap space in 2014 and 10 picks(ish) to play with. It's like Christmas!

I don't know how anyone can be complaining at this point.

Grimes would be our best corner since Surtain.

Free agent CB Brent Grimes visited the Dolphins on Friday.
Cornerback is probably the Dolphins' biggest need, and so far GM Jeff Ireland has ignored the area in his aimless spending spree. Miami already lost Sean Smith to the Chiefs. Nolan Carroll was a DPI penalty machine as a starter before being demoted, and Richard Marshall has been battling a back injury. Grimes could likely join the Dream Team on a one-year deal.

Why would we need to save cap to extend Starks? Extending him would reduce his cap number.

No, it wouldn't. Do you know how much he costs against the cap right now?

You're aware that by cutting Dansby and Burnett, and switching them with Ellerbe and Wheeler, that we freed up something like $10M+ in cap space for next year right? What's the issue with us signing a few short term deals this season so that we can address half of our issues via the draft this season, and the other half next year?
