Did not realize the draft already happened...

With our needs as they stand, do you expect them to use a draft pick where the actual talent is for WR's in this year's draft? Based on free agency it appears we have other needs to fill.

They have 5 picks in the top three rounds.

They could take 2 CBs, an OL, a pass rusher and still have another pick for a WR.

If they resign Long, even more likely.

This. I think Brandon is a very solid WR and he is going to be a #3 or 4 for the Dolphins. People talking about what he did at St. Louis, but with as bad as the OL was for the Rams, I don't think to many folks were lighting it up.

the rams had 3 quality receivers that split the workload up. And they aren't an aerial team.

He's now our biggest receiver, so what's the problem?

Brandon Gibson vs Dolphins last year:

7 receptions on 9 targets for 91 yards (avg 13 yds, longest was 22 yds).

So what if he ends up 4th on the depth chart. Do you want the Dolphins to only have 3 WRs? Somebody has to be 4th, and this guy has done more in games that the guys at the bottom of our depth chart.

Clyde Gates had 7 receptions for 82 yards (11.71 average) against us in a game. Should we want him back?

My point was why not draft a guy with bigger upside to be the 4th receiver? Not to mention we're supposedly still developing Matthews. What are they doing with Binns? So again, I'm slightly worried about how they're approaching the draft.

We still will. Maybe a Terence Williams or Robert Woods in the 3rd.

The Miami Herald reports Davone Bess' status with the Dolphins remains "unchanged" despite Friday's signing of Brandon Gibson.
Chain movers who offer little after the catch, Bess and Gibson are redundant talents, but the Dolphins are sitting tight for the time being. Due $2.633 million in the final year of his contract, Bess might draw mild interest as a trade candidate.

With where our needs stand, I just have a hard time picturing Ireland actually grabbing a guy.

I see your point RS it makes me wonder as well. I am hoping for Rhodes at 12 right now, and hoping they grab a size guy in round 2. Maybe Williams or Hunter. But really there are a couple nice size guys that will be there in rounds 2 and 3.

I wonder if they just wanted a # 2 behind Bess, who knows what he signed for anyway...

I have to wonder if this is some what of a Patriot block?

They were very interested in Gibson and need wr. Help.

And now they have signed Sanders to a rfa sheet.

Interesting.

I don't think Ireland/Philbin would be crazy enough to send Bess to the patriots.

I think they will keep him, and still possibly draft another WR.

Also, where is the big body reciever for the redzone?

Perhaps that could be Eifert? I don't believe it is out of the question being that two key tight ends are important. This guy "could" be the red zone threat that you want. I think Keller is more geared when you get inside the 25, Eifert could be inside the 15 on etc.

How would it be a block?

They had a much faster version of him in to get checked out in Emmanual Sanders.

We had a runningback named Reggie Bush who scored 6 TD's. Ironically could've doubled that had they thrown him the darn football (great footballl decision on a team starving for playmakers). Ya, he's not coming back.

Fasano averaged almost 5 TD's a year for us while he was here.

Let's not get too crazy about Gibson's TD's.

But Rock, Gibson had that one handed catch against the Dolphins !! lol!

Let's hope that Gibson becomes a value to the team as at the very worst a 4th wide out & let's hope for two more things that they first keep Davone Bess and also draft another wide out stud in the draft as I agree that they still need to bring in talent that will set the bar HIGHER.

I don't think they are done yet on this position, but I understand the concern that perhaps they won't draft someone early enough now & "settle" for a later round receiver, which I think would be a mistake.

However, as Rich has commented, we haven't had the draft yet, so we need to see what happens yet.

Still offensive line, tight end, defensive backs, pass rusher to address.....

While I'm not a big fan of this move, I understand it. Adding a solid #3/#4 guy gives us four quality receivers, something that will be useful if we have an injury happen to one of our top guys. Wallace is the deep threat, Gibson is a quality fourth receiver, and Keller is the seam threat. If we manage to retain Long at a fair price we'll have set ourselves up to add one cornerback via the draft and then go best player available from then on. Being able to draft best player available instead of drafting out of need is a heck of an advantage. It allows you to go after Terrance Williams or Robert Woods if they hit the 3rd round. It allows you to go after Eddie Lacy if he slips to the 2nd. It allows you to take a shot at Tyler Eifert if he's there in the 2nd. It lets you take that elite pass rusher if he's there at 12. It makes it ok to take a chance on someone like Tyrann Mathieu if he's there in the middle rounds. While this Brandon Gibson move isn't going to scare teams, it adds quality depth and frees us up so that we don't have to force a receiver into our draft plans. Rather if we choose to take a receiver or tightend in the draft it will be because the kid presents tremendous value.

I know Swerve, sorry, every move we make is great. I hope he tears it up this year, but he's really nothing.

Cook would've been met with cheers because of the potential of his skill sets in this offense paired with a burner on the outside in Wallace. You'd have a WR who needs safety help over the top and then a TE whom LB's can't cover who needs safety help over the top. Just the threat of it would keep defensive coordinators fits.
So production only matters if you want it to? While I love Cook's ability he has not produced for a man who has all that physical ability. Now is it Tenn or is it Cook? Ben Troupe was the similar type player who bombed at Tenn & moved to Tampa/Oakland & never did anything.

Rock Sexton wrote:
Gibson doesn't bring skill sets like that
No, but he brings a Wr that can catch & play a solid role for this team. He is a bigger Bess IMO.

Don't believe that comment is accurate.

Is this from a recent conversation? I do not recall ever bringing up Hartline's YAC, if I have then I have forgotten it. Reason is I do not know what his YAC is.

that video was pretty darn impressive for a 3rd wide receiver. If he draws inferior corners on a regular basis he's going to get open and produce for this offense.
