In what has become a complete overhaul of the passing game, the Dolphins have added their third new target for Ryan Tannehill in Brandon Gibson. Gibson caught 51 passes for 691 yards and 5 TDs as a starter for the Rams.
Gibson is not a burner and will not get much in the way of yards after the catch, as he runs a 4.59 40 yard dash, but he is a hard-worker, is willing to go over the middle, compete for the ball and make a play in traffic.
The expectation is that with Wallace and Hartline set at the starters, Gibson would be either a 3rd receiver to rotate in with Wallace or Hartline, or would compete in the slot against Davone Bess. There is a lot of speculation about what will happen to Bess with the signing of Gibson.
Interestingly enough, PFF ranked Brandon Gibson as the 39th best wide receiver in the NFL for 2012, one spot behind Bess and two spots behind Hartline.
From a pass catching perspective, PFF has Gibson ranked 23, tied with Hakeem Nicks. Gibson caught 68% of his targets and had 5 drops.
Here is a week to week analysis of his performance.
