Seems like NFL.com's grade is in line with a lot of sites that publish mocks.

Those are not the "very bottom" of the 1st round. That's mid first round, just a few picks below Lane Johnson in most of those mocks.

Well, Swerve, if anything you made Rich work for his answer.

OmarKelly However, there probably isn't a "draft expert" out there who wouldn't tell you trading up for Lane Johnson is a smart move. Perspective.

OmarKelly What most people who don't follow the draft closely fail to realize is that your options at LT AFTER Lane Johnson aren't very solid.

I don't know how many news outlets need to say it to validate me on the tackle dropoff.

people who don't follow the draft closely fail to realize

mmmmmm....sounds like someone I know

And I know you don't follow the draft as closely as I do.
You've said as much in past discussions.

NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah believes Oklahoma LT Lane Johnson has the "most upside of any offensive lineman" in the entire draft, and is the "ideal candidate" to replace Jake Long in Miami.
Johnson is generally considered the third best tackle in the draft behind Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher, but he's by far the most athletic of the three. He's also the most raw, but that won't stop teams from projecting his talent. The Palm Beach Post reported Tuesday it "(keeps) hearing" the Dolphins will target Johnson with their first pick, but that landing him will require trading up. The Dolphins have the draft-pick cache and impatience to do what it takes to move up.

He's athletic as hell, but I wonder how he would compare to Kyle Long if they stayed another year in school, or Armstead if he was at a big program. Probably goes ahead of them, but is he as far ahead as he is now? I don't think so. That's why I'm fine with Kyle Long, for example. He's not where the Big 3 are development wise, but he down the road he should be a heck of a player.

He's perfect for what we want. He can start at left tackle immediately and see if Martin can have a good season at right tackle. If Martin doesnt improve, then we can sign a veteran right tackle next year who can do the job

2013 NFL Draft Scouting Report: D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama

Limited to the role of right tackle in a power-blocking system in the NFL
Less-than-ideal pass protector - allowed more sacks than any OT in the SEC in 2012
Slow, lumbering feet
Lacks flexibility and balance
Needs to keep his feet moving in run blocking

Expected draft placement:

Fluker figures to go in the second half of the first round and no later than the early second. He has the potential to go as early as No. 18 to the Dallas Cowboys. Expect the Cincinnati Bengals (No. 21) and Indianapolis Colts (No. 24) to also be in play. He probably won't make it past the Detroit Lions (No. 37) in the second round.

Alabama OT D.J. Fluker weighed in at 339 pounds for the Scouting Combine Thursday.
It's notable because Fluker was an overweight 355 at the Senior Bowl. A dominant run-blocker for Eddie Lacy and the Tide last season, Fluker's ability to lean out should help his draft stock. The projected right tackle is a candidate to be drafted late in the first round. The 2013 draft is rich on tackles, with Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher, and Lane Johnson at the top.

So you're complaining about me supposedly posting garbage (even though I was simply responding in kind to yours), but you don't seem to have a problem continuing to do it yourself.

You shouldn't throw stones if you live in a glass house...

In one of his best tests of the season, Fluker stepped up with a good game against LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo. Fluker did a good job of keeping Mingo from getting pressure or any sacks. That performance could help him to stay as a right tackle in the eyes of NFL scouts.

What quality PR did Johnson face?
Asking, because I do not follow Ok. football to know.

Right now, I'm liking Fluker if he is there in Rd. 2, but I doubt he gets out of Rd. 1

Swerve you can argue your point until your face turns blue... fact is you won't convince nearly any of us at this point that an OT is of more importance as #12 then taking a play maker. We've been down that road in the past and our offensive line still blows.

I'll call your Rotoworld and raise you a Mel Kiper.

Quote:
“The guy is as good as run-blocking right tackle as you’ll ever find, could be a guard,” Kiper said. “Some think he could be a left tackle. I question that but I think D.J. Fluker from Alabama would be interesting at 12.”

This mock has us trading up to the #4 pick to select Luke Joeckel, giving up the 12th pick (1st round), 42nd pick (2nd round) and 111st pick (4th round) to move up.

I'm in agreement but just wanted to share how varied opinions can be from one draftnik to another.

That's a lot of ammunition to give up for a tackle.

We should only move up if it doesn't cause us to forsake 2nd or 3rd round picks.

The value in this draft is in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and I think you're going to be seeing a lot of players going earlier than expected or dropping in these rounds because teams are going to find very little difference between a guy projected high in the 2nd round and a guy projected low in the 3rd round.

This could be a draft like the '86 draft where the Niners found several of their key players.

That is like the idea I was playing around with when I made my mock. I didn't do it because I want Miami to give up picks but rather thought Ireland might continue an aggressive offseason approach. There a few elite prospects in the draft and it would seem you can make moves at a cheaper price because of that.

Trading up to the 4th pick wouldn't really seem to make sense with Philly really needing a left tackle. I would think Miami would have to leap frog them and try to get a pick desperate team like Oakland to move back.

This is a very hard draft to mock.

Interesting tweet from one of the Draft Winds guys. He is starting to think Miami will get Rhodes at 12 and trade up from 42 to take Carradine, Werner or Eifert (whichever falls).

Makes some sense.
