The truth is that we all like Davone Bess. He's a fan favorite. But he's just a mediocre receiver at best.

And you're a mediocre poster, but we put up with it ....... LOL

Then you are blind.

Nope. I still can see. Gibson is 2 years younger and improving. He has a career average of 12.0 yards per catch. He has improved on that average every year and finished 2012 with over 13 yards per catch and 5 TD's. I think he is a young player on the rise. Bess has been just over 10 yards per catch for his career and despite being featured more in 2012, he just cracked 12 yards per catch with one TD. It was almost comical when they sent him on deep patterns.

Bess is a nice slot receiver. We should have got more for him. That said, Gibson is a more than adequate replacement.

The folks who are blind are the ones that wanted to send Hartline packing and keep Bess.....

....we shall see. Davone Bess will surely shine for that offensive juggernaut in Cleveland. Brandon Gibson will benefit from the presence of Wallace and Hartline on the outside.

I remember people comparing Camarillo going to Favre and the Vikings, to Welker going to Brady and the Patriots.
Sometimes it takes a fan favorite going to another team to make you see just how bad the level of your team might be at a certain position.

Another thing to think about, especially if this team plans on adding a veteran offensive tackle after the draft. Eric Winston and/or Bryant McKinnie come to mind.

Some insight on the trade.

Jeff Ireland wrote:

I’ll let coach (Head Coach Joe Philbin) address some of the things as well, but we feel very good about the group we have with Mike (Wallace) and Brandon (Gibson) and Brian (Hartline) and Rishard (Matthews), so it felt like we had a little bit of value there that we could move on from. I wish Davone the best actually.”

I'm fine with sending them both packing. Two TDs between them both.

I will be waiting for a reporter to ask Philbin, so coach why did you want to get rid of Bess?

i dont think anyone really liked losing Bess but with all these changes going on it is almost like collateral damage. All that being said I think our QB is that good that he will move on without him very quickly. Also with the current price tag of elite QB's handcuffing their teams salary cap we better start budgeting for our guy pretty soon because he is gonna turn out to be better than Flacco , Brees , Rogers & any other 20+ million dollar a year QB.

Here you go...a great example of a WR who has done NOTHING in the league being partially used as the reason for letting Bess go. Seriously???? I can't believe the media let that maggot Ireland get away without challenging that.

Hartline would have had a few more if Tannehill had some touch on his deep ball. He better get that dialed in for Wallace.....although Wallace has enough speed to compensate for overthrows....

If you are talking about Bess, you dead wrong. Probowl players don't get uses "partially" used. Players that score 1 td a season get "partially" used. If he was all that, he would be used more....sorry, I like Bess, but with a 3mil cap hit he had to go.

Seriously when has Bess had a decent QB throwing the ball to him? The guy has insane hands.

...where was number 2? Look there's no way I'd make a bet about Bess becuse the only time the Browns will get to the superbowl is right before I flush. 3 million is chump change in todays NFL. The guy has averaged about 65 catches over 5 years. I think that's worth 3M.

I meant 2, sorry....not worth 3 mil bud. he averaged 2.5tds or something like that over his career, an upgrade was needed and we upgraded for a cheaper player with more upside. Oh well...its done now.

Man, I really don't get this trade. Bess is a solid contributor and would have been nice to complement the other receivers. We're supposed to be adding weapons not subtracting them.

Mike Wallace has done nothing in the league.

When someone uses that in an argument, you know it is time to walk away as the other party is not in their right mind.

I really liked Bess and the dependability he gave our offense. With that being said I won't miss a receiver hitting the ground as soon as the catch is made, Bess didn't have much YAC. I think Philbin is trying to change that.

We've got a lot of contracts that accelerate next year. Not only that, but we've got a few key players that will need extensions. By moving Bess to Cleveland, and potentially replacing Carpenter, the Dolphins will roll a lot of cap space over to next season.

From the Miami Herald today:

### Though he was a good team guy, a Dolphins player said Davone Bess grew frustrated at times the past two years after some games when he wasn’t involved as much in the offense as he would like. Bottom line: If he hadn’t been traded, being a fourth receiver likely wouldn’t have sat well with him.
