Jeff Ireland took over the draft totally for Miami in 2010 and these are the list of kids that are starters or contributors.
Odrick is a good DLman and that is about it. Misi is just there & the trade down cost Miami Bryant. Miami is looking to replace Jerry & he cost Miami Graham. Miami is generally to scare of talented players who lack maturity. Jones looks to be the best of this draft.
To think Miami could have walked out of this draft with Bryant & Graham but instead got Odrick/Misi & Jerry.
Pouncey is it and just to help reduce Kev post count on me & not destroy another thread with his BS. I was not thrilled with the pick. Thought Clay could be the man that team would have a hard time with dealing it coming out of the FB position in the backfield. He still is a tease and might not be on the team this year. Thomas has been what I expected him to be. Nothing. Ireland generally screws up when he trades up. He passed on Murray for Thomas.
You can certainly make a case that John Jerry has underachieved and that both Nolan Carroll and Daniel Thomas may both lose their spots on the roster for 2013. But the rest of that group is solid and Pouncey has turned into a Pro Bowl caliber safety and Reshad Jones is close to that. Ryan Tannehill certainly looks like the young QB Miami has been wanting, and while Jonathan Martin had his struggles, he has the potential to be that guy at OLT.
This could be his best draft. If Tanny hits then the draft was good. If Martin/Miller step up & be quality players then the draft is great. The others will only make it better.
In regards to this draft just completed, Irealnd pretty much drafted all of this group where they were slated to be picked or better, probably with the exception of Caleb Sturgis, the PK
1)Dion Jordan was a projected top 6 player and considered the most talented pass rusher in this draft.
Ireland's balls finally drop. While I have my concerns about Jordan 's rookie year with his shoulder injury & not being able to do much prior to camp. I think he can be a difference maker on D.
2)Jamar Taylor had a 1st-2nd round grade on him and most thought he would go late 1st round.
Other than Boise St. Looks to be a solid pick.
3)Dallas Thomas is a 3year starter in the SEC at Tennessee and brings versatility, as he started for 2 years at OLT then moved down to OLG his senior season. Pro FootballWeekly had him as a 2nd-3rd round slot, CBSSports had him as a 3rd round grade and Scott Wright of NFL Draft Countdown had him as a 2nd-3rd round pick.
Ireland is getting bashed on this pick. I view this pick as a 2014 replacement of Richie.
3)Will Davis, the CB from Utah State lead the nation in pass breakups with 17 and had 5 interceptions his senior year. ProFootballWeekly had a 2nd-3rd round grade, CBSSports had a 5th round grade, Scott Wright of NFL Draftcountdown had a 2nd-3rd round grade on him.
Can't comment on this. Do not know him or anything about him.
4)Jelani Jenkins, the OLB from Florida had a 4th-5th round grade from ProFootballWeekly.com, 5th round grade from CBSSports.com and a Scott Wright had a mid round grade on him.
Guess this was a depth pick. Maybe a future in him.
4) Dion Sims fits the mold of versatile, Anthony Fasano type TE, a kid that is a very good inline blocker and is competent in the pass game also. Miami has a TE that can threaten the seem and be a big play guy in FA aquisition Dustin Keller, and Charles Clay has shown glimpses of what he can be. ProFootballWeekly had a 3rd-4th round grade on him, CBSSports had a 5th round grade on him and Scott Wright had a mid round grade on him.
Crossing my fingers on this pick, but would like to have a game changer at the TE position instead of the next Fasano.
5) Mike Gillislee, the RB from Florida is a very nice pick and has a lot of tread left on his tire, as 2012 was his 1st year being the featured back for a Florida team that did not have much of a passing game. He had 1,152 yards and 10 touchdowns, and is a perfect fit for a zone blocking scheme. ProFootballWeekly had a 4th-5th round grade on him, CBSSports had a 4th-5th round grade on him and Scott Wright had a mid round grade on him.
Hopefully will be the No. 2 man that can give Miller a breather.
5) Caleb Sturgis was a reach, as the Dolphins probably could have got him later, but they did not have a 6th round pick and had traded 2 of their 7th round picks. That said, Caleb has a great leg and was 17-22 on kicks 40 yards or longer. Playing for Florida in the SEC, the kid has had to make many clutch kicks in pressure situations. He has a very legitimate chance to be incumbent Dan Carpenter out
Some where Tony is fist pumping. I hope he is Miami's kicker next year. Hate to waste a pick on a kicker and he not be the guy.
7) Don Jones is a very good athlete and I have read will be bought in as a CB/FS. This is a 7th round pick that like Kheeston Randle from 2012, a 7th round draft pick at DT that made the team, I think Jones will make this team.
More depth. Would have rather seen DaRick Rodgers here & gamble on his 2nd Rd. talent.
