Post Rotoworld: Gibson is Stone Handed, Ireland a Fool
Quote:
"Stone-handed with zero after-the-catch ability, Gibson is not a good fit for the slot, but the coaching staff has to play him somewhere after GM Jeff Ireland foolishly handed out a three-year, $9.755 million deal. The Dolphins would have been better off letting the Jets sign Gibson and keeping Davone Bess through the final year of his contract."

All I can do is laugh at this...I don't get agitated in the slightest after reading "articles" like this, it's pure comedy for me now. However, "stone hands" Gibson only dropped 6% of his passes last season so it's obvious that all this guy does is get news from other news sites and proceed to talk out the butt.

I wonder why Evan Silva is stuck with an internet blogging gig while the "fool" Jeff Ireland is general manager for a professional football team...I wonder why it isn't the other way around Silva? Lol, don't get heated from this crap...just laugh.

Hey man, I used to write for a site as well, not taking a shot at bloggers whatsoever. I know you were just messing around lol. Keep after it brother, sports is a respectable occupation...just don't follow Silva's footsteps!

"Stone-handed" Brandon Gibson had a better drop percentage and caught a higher pct. of his targets than Bess. Nice try though, Evan.

I actually agree with Evan's overall assessment of Gibson, but he has to stop manufacturing reasons to criticize Jeff.

I was reading your blog and it was definitely worth the time. However, I was really puzzled when I came across this section of your Gillislee assesment:

Quote:
I also fully expect Gillislee to beat out Lamar Miller for the back-up running back position, possibly leading to his release as well. Miller has been nothing but a disappointment since he arrived in Miami and I think we're looking to move on from him.

What makes you think Miller was a disappointment? He had a decent dose of snaps and 50 carries, and averaged 4.9 yards per carry which is very exceptional. The guy also never fumbled during those 51 carries..something Daniel Thomas does literally every 20-30 carries (and also averaged a ridiculously pathetic 3.6 yards per carry during his time in Miami).

I'm not calling you out, just interested in what makes you think of Lamar Miller like that. If you're saying he was a disappointment in regards to his lack of snaps due to inexperience at pass protection, I really don't believe it's warranted. Otherwise, fantastic write ups man. That Dolphins page is packed with info (I read all of it), it's obvious you really work hard on the site.

Yes, that is a puzzling statement. Everyone is expecting Miller to be the starter...

Surely Gibson is a future hall of famer...Bill Billicheat tried to reunite him with the best OC in the league, Josh McDaniel...
Well using Roto logic anyway.

Rotoworld certainly seems to have an agenda when it comes to Jeff Ireland and Miami. Sure, Brandon Gibson is not a Pro Bowl player, but he is a very solid, dependable football player that has the ability to line up outside or in the slot.

I know some were not happy with the signing and don't really think highly of him and that all and good. We all have our opinions. I think he is a solid football player that will contribute to the team.

AFCME, Rich, and swerve: Maybe I'm being a little harsh in calling him a disappointment after only one season, and I am interested to see what he can do now that he is the expected starter. But to me, 51 carries and 250 yards and 1 touchdown is disappointing.

Also, as it pertains to Gillislee...pretty sure I meant to say Daniel Thomas, not Lamar Miller. I should change that.

He was a 4th Rd. pick with an established starter and a higher drafted 2nd Yr Rb in front of him. What were you expecting?

Chris, I think a big part of the reason that Lamar did not have more carries was his struggles as a blocker on 3rd down.

There a reason why the Dolphins let Reggie walk, the main one being Lamar Miller. Bigger, just as explosive and does a better job of hitting the hole. He got some shake and bake to him as well, but he does a better job of hitting the hole.

The Dolphins obviously feel Lamar improved enough as a blocker to make the move. The fact that he is a cheaper option does not hurt either.

What's not to like about Lamar Miller. There were times last year that I thought he had a better vision than the Golden Child.

For a third string running back rookie taken in the 4th round?

Really??

a big difference between Gibson and bess is that Bess gets lost downfield because he is so small, His worth is within the first 10 yards from the line of scrimmage on short passes. Gibson can work the short and intermediate and is a larger target downfield as well for the quarterback.

Yes, the yards per carry number is great. And yes, he was a third string running back so maybe my expectations are a little high, but I would have like to see more last year. Obviously he has potential. You don't go from third string to starter in one year without it, but I wanted to see more.

And as I said previously, the talk of losing his job to Gillislee was meant to say Daniel Thomas, not Lamar Miller.
