Post Daniel Thomas separates himself from rest for #2 back
I've been very down on him after the first two preseason games, but I have to say that he had some shake and bake that I hadn't seen before in any of his games. Good for him.

Running back competition: Speaking of running backs, the Dolphins were looking for separation behind Miller, who is the projected starter. They may have gotten it with third-year player Daniel Thomas. He had his best preseason game against Houston, rushing for 25 yards on just four carries. Thomas has the inside track to become Miami’s No. 2 tailback behind Miller. Dolphins rookie running back Mike Gillislee (three carries, nine yards) and Jonas Gray (four carries, 14 yards) didn’t have productive games.

He is a hard runner, and I could see him pushing for the # 1 spot if it wasnt for injuries.

Every year he has looked promising, and by mid season he is nursing a couple things...

Two games in a row he has looked good. Ran well against the Jags and now the Texans. So far, I see an improvement and the reason why he was drafted in the first place. Hope that carries over to the regular season now.

He may not technically be the starting back but I'd bet that he and Miller have an equal amount of carries when all is said and done. Both have injury histories and flaws to their game. Right now Thomas offers much better blocking for Tannehill which is huge.

I am pleasantly surprised at how Thomas has looked in preseason. I feel much better about the run game than I thought I would.

Everytime I see Thomas stay in for pass protection, I see him do a poor job at it.

I don't understand where this idea that he is good in pass protection comes from.

I originally liked the kid but the injuries kind of soured me on him. I hope he stays healthy because Miami needs a back with his running capability.

We run a zone blocking scheme so Miller is the guy you want to have the majority of the carries. Finds a seam, 1 cut and he's gone, Portis-style. I'd like to see a 250/120 carry split from Miller/Thomas.

Thomas will benefit from getting more carries.........assuming he does not get knocked unconscious. I don't think Reggie Bush was a good mentor for him.........last year he looked like he tried to emulate Bush by dancing to much, instead of hitting the hole.

Here you go, #33, kept the play alive because of his pass protection. Nonetheless...I am not a Thomas fan.

I agree. I'm glad to see Thomas looking good and it shows that he's working hard. I just believe Miller has a greater skill set. & the coaches seem to be going out of their way to talk up DT, which suggests they're motivating Miller to work harder and earn the spot. & there aint nothing wrong with that!

As Incognito gets his helmet ripped off....Get rid of the ball RT!

I just don't see it either...Thomas goes down too easy
