DAVIE—

Three of the NFL's most successful teams from the 2013 regular season — Kansas City, Seattle and Carolina — hired their general manager after they hired their coach.

The Dolphins, who will follow that practice, can only hope things work out as well.

Hiring a general manager with the coach already in place isn't the ideal situation in the NFL. But it's not unusual in recent years. Among the 18 general managers hired since 2010, nine took their jobs with a head coach already in place. ...

The reassuring thing for the Dolphins is last season's results seem to indicate if a team has a general manager who can identify talent, and a coach who can take advantage of that talent, it doesn't matter who was hired first. ...

While true. Generally its new coaches, not always & its usually not one who was forced to fire his OC & should be on shaky ground himself.

Miami is a clown org right now IMO

Uhhh........OK, I'm not sure this season indicates we did not have the talent. We were more talented than several of the teams we lost to. What's more concerning is we lost in major fashion in the second games we played to two down and out division rivals. Philbin, Coyle and Sherman are clearly not individuals that can coach with the talent around them.........if Philbin and Coyle have a chance next year, they must have all the pieces to fit their scheme.

8-8 doesn't mean we have talent.

There's much more to it in regards to the talent level on team then just the record. Yes, the Dolphins definitely underachieved this season with the talent they had.
