Maybe it is just me but this defense didn't help much this year. I felt watching the games that the pressure was all on the offense. The defense was going to give up their token 20 points no matter who they played. Even when the ofrfense had a good lead, the defense usually caved and allowed the other team back into the game. I just don't have the confidence that personnel is going to fix this.

You're right Mitch, but they did the smart thing and sucked for luck while we are such losers, we don't even know when we have won...(sucking for Luck).

I'm guessing no chance at all now that we get a new DC?

Yeah, I am still scratching my head to understand why the DC role is also being scrutinized more. You don't hear a peep out of this topic from the Dolphins staff.

Only thing I can think of is that the thinking is that the Defense was good enough & did not cost us games nor it was the reason for losing the last 2 games.
Also if the HC is going to preach that we are actually close , a full house cleaning is almost an admission of a lie to that quote.

You're right Mitch. 8-8 is close....sure we could go 9-7, 10-6 or go the other way 7-9, 6-10. Close to me is losing the AFC champ game by 3 points. 8-8 means we suck,....

Ya, and the offense didn't do the defense any favors either.. But the defense had too much talent to be so average.

That and you saw where guys were not being used to their strengths..And that's always concerning when judging a coach.

all of those 3rd and longs that we gave up were just daggers to the heart. They were the cause for so many losses.

To a lot of us, it makes little sense that Philbin still has his job..............but it really makes no sense if you fire both his Coordinators. I can't remember a HC keeping his job after both Coordinators were fired..............if it happened, I bet it didn't turn out well.

I'm not a Croyle fan, but Wheeler & Ellerbe are not good and Dion Jordan is not ready to transition over to LB. Despite the need in the OL, I anticipate our 1st round pick will be at LB.

It is possible that Wheeler and Ellerbe are not being used properly.

Wait a second, I don't remember seeing Dolphin players cramping up in the 4th quarter. Good job waterboy. Everyone must have been hydrated. Let's promote him to a job he is not qualified for and hire an unqualified waterboy to replace him.

the dolphins were 8th in points per game 11th in sacks but only 2 away from 8th, so they were right up there in sacks..

for the most point they were better on defense than the playoff teams...

but they underachieved in my opinion....they should have won more games with the talent

Coyle had no cajones. The guy let 2 nobody QBs score over 20 points on his defense. Those are games where you blitz the snot out of the young QB. If he beats you fine, but you don't just rush 4 guys most of hte game and expect your guys to beat theirs. As a matter of fact, when our guys out-played the other side, they usually won. No excuses for DE's who produced over 20 sacks that this team wasn't better.

But they were terrible against the run and how have the playoff teams been winning?

Mostly by running the ball.

This is the second year we roll into the off season with a stingy defense that allows a couple points more than the offense can score.

At 8th in the NFL at points allowed, I am ok with him for another year.. Not like I expect much for 2014 anyway...

I just hope the scab team drafts some offensive players early this year. Last years waste of the first two rounds still aggravates me.. Only saving grace is they probably just would have drafted offensive wastes instead, and maybe the DC in 2015 will utilize Jordan..

I'm not sure why Coyle is getting a free pass. 3 of the top 4 picks were defensive...none made the field full time. Big time FA money was spent on new LBs. His defense might have done alright in the points against catagory... but had to suck in the scoring, turnovers and yards against catagories. He should've been able to hold both Buffalo and the Jets out of the endzone with the QB talent on those teams. He needs to be part of the GO! package...as in GO-GO get gone.

Said this earlier in the year...still believe Coyle should've been deep sixed. I was on the fence with Philbin ever since he was named but now he's solidly in the go-go package.
