I would be very disappointed if Turner didn't make the team but after looking at what we have, his chances don't look good.

Turner has no one to blame but himself....if you were unable to see the field at WR with the crop we had in 2009, then you were either incapable of playing at an NFL level or had no work ethic.

Yeah I think he just need a full year to get it......he has the body type of a Marshell and to me it's better to have 2 bigger (wr) than it is to have 3 smaller 1's. Bess,Cam,and Mullen are all on the other side of 6 feet, while they still produce just think it's better to a taller (wr). But then if he doesn't show any promise in camp and in pre-season,then thats all on him and he should go.

I think J.Allen should be on the chopping blocks to.......he is another player that hasn't paned out. I mean we used a 1st round pick on a guy who played back up to our poor safety play last year. Some one wrote that P.Turner should be gone if he couldn't get on the field with the (wr)'s we had last year, then I think the same can be said for J.Allen. Yeah he plays (sp) but not like he is one of the best there either. So he better have a good camp and pre-season or think he will be gone next.

Greg Camarillo and Brian Hartline are 6'1. As much as I wanted to see Patrick Turner contribute last year, I have to agree with FrustratedFinFan. The fact that he could not even get on the field last year was a stunner to me.

He better have a solid camp, but he will be given a chance as no team is anxious to cut a 3rd round pick.

Greg Camarillo is a beast. I will guarantee he is the receiver opposite of Marshall.

I think it will be split pretty evenly. On 3rd down situations though, if they go with 2 WR sets, I think it will be Cam almost 100% of the time.

I have to say I'm pretty excited about our receiving core. Marshall on one side, Cam on the other side, and Hartline and Bess in the slot. Pat Cobbs in the backfield with Henne...Split sets will be unstopable.

Very good list.

We could roll with that team.

I see us playing a lot less of "two TE" formations and more of a standard I back or Power I formations with 2 WR, RB, FB and one TE.

Hartline will be the clear #2 WR before this season is out....maybe even before the season starts. I would actually prefer a lineup of Marshall and Hartline, with Camarillo in the slot when we have 3 receivers on the field. Bess has fabulous hands and all....but he is small, gets no yardage after the catch...and I think Camarillo can make plays using his size that Bess physically can not make.

Davone Bess has shown that he deserves to be on the field. He a very much a clutch player for Miami and Henne looks for him alot.

Brandon Marshall makes Miami receiving corp a very solid one, a plus group now.

Phins, you are counting on Patrick Cobbs a lot. He is coming off a torn ACL, so I would give him some time to get back both physically and mentally.

I think Jonathon Amaya makes this team... call it a hunch, I don't know who he beats out (Jason Allen?), but that's my very early prediction.

Yes, which is why I thought that Cobbs could become expendable should Miami take Spiller. He won't be what he used to be...especially this year.

Don't agree with you at all. As the season progressed his YAC went up. The reason he doesn't get a lot of YAC is because he's coming back to the ball a lot of times. He's also the third or second option in the play. Getting yardage has no correlation to height.

You have one too many, Ferguson is suspended but still takes a roster spot.

A few things to say to that. One, there are 52 guys there and the "on the edge" guys...take your pick as to who makes. Second, assume Ferguson counts as a roster spot, he gets cut and that is who Miami goes with. Third, I believe you are wrong. If he is suspended he would be on some sort of list like the PUP list or whatever so it doesn't count. No way in heck Miami wastes a roster spot on a guy that won't play for the first half of the season.

J.Allen has had his chances to do more than just play on (sp).......Like I said before it's not like he is a elite guy on (sp) so he can be replaced, free up some of his money to be used later.

I agree, I've been hearing a lot of buzz about Jonathon Amaya. I think he beats out Jason Allen based on potential and special teams contributions.
As far as the rest of the 53-man roster goes, I would like to see us keep Kory Sperry on the roster as a redzone target/special teamer. I would replace the fifth outside linebacker with him.
Other than that, this looks like a pretty darn accurate roster. Good job Iowafin!
:yay:

With the recent events, I did some reshuffling.

DB's: Davis, Allen, Allen, Smith, Carroll, Smith, Clemons, Culver, Jones, Bell
ILB's: Dansby, Crowder, Dobbins, Edds
OLB's: McCoy, Anderson, Wake, Misi, Moses, Walden
DE's: Odrick, Langford, McDaniel, Alma-Francais
DT's: Starks, Soliai

OT: Long, Carey, Garner
OG: Proctor, Incognito, Thomas, Jerry
C: Grove, Berger
QB: Henne, Thigpen, White
RB: Brown, Williams, Cobbs, Hilliard, Polite
WR: Marshall, Bess, Camarillo, Hartline, Grice-Mullen
TE: Fasano, Haynos

K/P/SP: Fields, Carpenter, Denney

Practice Squad:
Ness, Amaya, Spitler, T. Davis, Sperry, Nalbone, A. Hartline, A. Gardner

Inactive List:
Pennington, Merling

Position Battles for Roster Spot:

Final DE:
Alma-Francais, Grant, Stanley, Douglas, Baker, Dotson

Final DT:
Stanely, Soliai

Final RB:
Hilliard, Cobbs, Sheets

Final WR:
Grice-Mullen, Turner, Pruitt, Wallace, Johnson, Moore

Final DB:
Amaya, Ness, Carroll, Jones, Oglesby

Final OG:
Thomas, Feinga, Gardner

Then there are starting battles, but this is just for who makes the roster.

iowa, I think there are way more DE's that make the roster than that. I would say Langford, Odrick, McDaniel, Douglas, Baker and Grant or Dotson (Dotson has the versatility to play NT as well which might give him the edge).

Also, I think you're mixing up Gardner with Garner.

Other than that, I would agree. I still think Sheets has a chance, and don't discount Taurus Johnson. He's my sleeper to make the roster. Actually why the hell not...here it goes...

QB: Henne, Thigpen, White
RB: Ronnie, Ricky, Cobbs, Hilliard
FB: Polite
WR: Marshall, Bess, Hartline, Camarillo, Johnson
TE: Fasano, Haynos
OT: Long, Carey, Murthra
OG: Thomas, Garner, Jerry, Incognito
C: Grove, Berger

CB: Vontae, Smith, Will Allen, Jason Allen, Carroll
S: Clemons, YB, Culver, Jones
ILB: Dansby, Crowder, Dobbins, Edds
OLB: Wake, Misi, Anderson, Moses, McCoy
NT/DT: Starks, Ivey, Baker/McDaniel
DE: Langford, Odrick, Douglas, McDaniel/Baker, Grant

ST: Carpenter, Fields, Denney

PUP/IR:
Pennington, Turner, Dotson, Merling

I want to be able to carry one more OLB like Walden, but, I feel the D-line right now needs that extra body, and with ILB now having an extra roster spot, I couldn't. Walden is only a special teamer anyway, which is replaceable. It's not even like he was that special on ST's last year anyway.

Nope. Garner will most likely spell guys and play guard and/or center, but he's versatile enough to play the tackle spot barring injury. Gardner is a tackle, but if he's going to make the team it probably won't be as a backup tackle...it will be as a starting guard, which is doubtful and why I have him on the PS

I don't think Miami will cut the pet project of Sparano in Corey Procter.

Interesting that you have a lot of faith in Ivey. Have you seen him play, or just a hunch?

It's a hunch. There are always surprise un-drafted guys, and I think that he could be that guy this season. I think Soliai needs to have a big camp in order to gain a spot, and Ivey has a nice big body and the athleticism to be able to spell Starks/Baker/McDaniel or whoever is in there. I think he was the guy I was reading about the other day that had it not been for an injury, he could have been a top half of the draft type guy. He's big, athletic and from the couple interviews I've heard has the right mindset to play in the trenches.

I've seen him play being an ACC guy, but I haven't watched out for him. I'm not sure if he played against BC at the end of last season; I hope not because Maryland could not stop our run game. Montel Harris FTW!

As far as Proctor, there is just no room for him on the roster, IMO.

Here's my guess at a 53-man as we head into training camp. I don't like keeping four quarterbacks, and I think trading Tyler Thigpen is an option if there is an injury somewhere else, but I don't think they're ready to cut Pat White yet.

I also see Kory Sheets as a better option on special teams than Lex Hilliard, although like I said in another thread, Hilliard always seems to be a monster in August.

I am a true believer in Jonathon Amaya, and believe he is what the Trifecta WISHES they had in Jason Allen -- a guy that plays big special teams and a guy that can swing between corner and safety. He brings position flexibility.

This from Salguero during the first practice:

Just saying. . .
