Schefter just reported on Sunday Countdown on ESPN that with Mike Nolan coming to Miami, and with JT and JP getting up there in age, he expects Miami to try and get Dumervil, who has 3 more career sacks than Mario Williams.

Also, Dumervil is from Miami, and played HighSchool ball in Miami.

Depends. If Denver offers him the highest tender in RFA, it would cost a 1st and a 3rd round draft pick, and a lot of money. If not, then just a 2nd round pick.

For the latter, I'd do it. Not for 2 high draft picks though.

Yeah a 1st and a 3rd is steep especially since we have a good chance to snag McClain in the 1st.

1st and 3rd... = no
2nd = I'm alright w/ it.

I hate trading away draft picks, but in Dumervil you get a sure thing that has proven success in Nolan's system. Tough choice.

A first and third is definitely to steep a price but if a second pick is all it takes then it should be done... You're picking a sure thing instead of taking a risk, it'll be stupid not to do it in that situation

ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests that impending restricted free agent OLB Elvis Dumervil will be on the Dolphins' radar this offseason.
The connection with Mike Nolan is obvious, as Dumervil enjoyed a career year under the Fins' new defensive boss in 2009. Dumervil also is from Miami. While the Broncos surely will want to retain the 26-year-old NFL sacks leader, coach Josh McDaniels abides by the ideology that any player is trade-able. The Dolphins' No. 12 overall pick could probably get it done.

We have C.Wake. He is so clearly our Dumervil. This makes no sense.

Wake is a strong side OLB....Dumervil is a weak side guy.

If he is bad against the run, we don't need him. We already have a pass rushing monster who can't cover the run.

Dumervil was ranked 27th out of 28 34 OLBs against the run by this site.

Keep in mind it was his 1st year playing in a 34 D.

Keep in mind that sight also has Jared Allen ranked 6th in 4-3 DE's and VIncent Jackson as the #1 WR...

Moral of the story is that sometimes raw numbers can be decieving. That entire team sucked against the run, not just him. When you have that kind of run D it's more of an interior line problem and not so much a LB issue. I think he'll be better than avg with our guys.

2nd it would have to be a draft time excahnge if they dont like there picks but the draft is deep in this position so i am not fan of either one

I wouldn't mind picking up Marshall for a price, but an OLB regardless of who is not worth the picks. We have a butt ton. The young guys just have to step up to the plate.

This might be a question for another thread, but say the Dolphins do get Wilfork, and they draft McClain and maybe an outside linebacker in the 2nd round. It's the 3rd round and Cody is still there, do you take him?

Nah, we need safety help... and Cody seems to be so one dimensional we could probably snag a better NT in a later draft.

Not for a first, no way at all. A second for a proven player though may be worth parting with.

Elvis is listed at 5'11, but 5'10 3/4 is probably more like it. But since when did a Parcells team start going after smaller linebackers? I recall Bill Belichick talking about these Dolphins and Parcells' player size preference:

So far they've only dealt a 4th round pick for two players.

I think Wilfork is a realistic target if not franchised. If Antonio Bryant is demanding a ton then he is a possibility. Otherwise I don't see much other than the draft.

These guys believe in acquiring stars through the draft and role players in free agency or via trade.

Don't get your hopes up about them making a big signing or trade.

Also I remember they dealt the 6th round pick for McDaniel, and Parcells made Ireland promise that he would get a pick back somehow, which he did. (I forget how exactly and am too lazy to look it up)

This regime is smart about building young teams through the draft, I don't see them trading away picks unless we are getting an equal number of picks in return somehow.
