Post What if the Miami Dolphins had hired......
I am just curious of everyone's opinion. If Miami had hired Rex Ryan, where do you think the team would be today? If Miami would have hired Mike Tomlin, where do you think the team would be today?

Moving forward, if they were to hire Bill Cowher, how successful do you think Miami would be? If Miami hired John Gruden, how successful do you think Miami would be?

Alot of what if's here, but I would still like to hear your thoughts.

I don't think that matters as much as if Miami had hired the right personnel guy.

If we hired Rex Ryan everyone would love the attitude he brings to the table.
Mike Tomlin is a flat out great coach who already has a ring.
We can dream.

Both Ryan and Tomlin have benefitted from very good personnel departments.

Tomlin went into a situation where the defense was already built and the franchise quarterback was already there.

Ryan hasn't won a ring yet so it remains to be seen if he is going to be a good coach or not.

Does Sparano have any say at all in personnel decisions? Why do we seem to go year after year with crappy personnel decisions? Sure, we get some role players and every now and then find a gem (Wake), but even a broken clock gets it right twice a day.

The one what if I have is, what if we hired Westhoff instead of Wannstedt? Though I guess we'll never know since he hasn't held a head coaching job in his career.

Well....today I yearn for the Wannstedt Dolphins. Ricky's year off destroyed his tenure, but we did get a playoff win and two playoff appearances. Fiedler was the best QB we have had since Marino. The defense was stout. After Ricky's break and Wannstedt's resignation, the tragedy that is the Dolphins went from bad to far worse. Little did we know how good we had it in those early 2000's....

There was a post a few days ago that said Pennington should go into the ring of honor. If thats the case , Fiedler should have the stadium named after him. Fiedler did pretty well replacing a legend if you ask me.

Who wrote that Pennington should be in the Ring of Honor?

I mean no disrespect to the person who wrote that, but you don't make the Ring of Honor for ANY ball club when you only lead your team to ONE winning season as QB.

Anyone who makes that type of an honor has usually played several meaningful years with that ball club.

Since the past 15 QB's Miami has gone thru, I would say that Jay Fiedler was the best one. I would say Pennington is probably the most talented and I would have loved to have seen him play healthy for Miami and for several years.

I agree that the Wanny years don't look so bad now......

IMO, Pennington deserves a spot in the ring of honor: it was because of him that we were able to go 1-15 to 11-5 with a trip to the playoffs.

I think Bill Cowher's style would be a good fit here... and hopefully he'd bring in the right guys to get the job done.

Bill Cowher... well if you got a long term commitment from him I'd be all for that...

Wannstedt?? R you nuts? that was the most painful thing I've ever watched.. That ex Bears JJ wannabe who finished driving a stake through the heart of this team that JJ started to pound in....

Well maybe Cam was worse.. maybe..

Cowher was dedicated as all hell to pitt.. if he brought that to the phins and we got him the right personal people I think he would thrive... he wanted to spend time with his family and walked away on his terms.. You know he is going to return.. where and when is the only question..

The only knock I ever had with him was sticking to Slash all them years.. I never got that... that aside he is a great coach IMO...

I think our current coach just lost his lead dog in Bill P... and I think he is starting to run blind... IMO anyway....

What if Miami hired a coach and let him stay? I don't see this as a JJ experiment getting worse with Wannstadt never adding talent.

The talent is here. If Miami had kept Saban around, would he have won a Super Bowl? I don't know, but he was adding talent and they were getting better...he was an idiot and left. Then Cameron came in and ripped out anything that was left.

Sparano and company have brought in a lot of promising guys.

LT-Jake Long
QB- Chad Henne
FB- Lousaka Polite
WR- Brandon Marshall
WR- Davone Bess
DE- Randy Starks
DE- Kendall Langford
DE- Tony McDaniel
CB-Vontae Davis
FS- Chris Clemons
OLB- Cameron Wake
LB- Karlos Dansby
KR- Nolan Carroll
K- Dan Carpenter

Let's take these guys, and build with them....I don't want to axe Sparano just so someone else can come in and get rid of these players in an attempt to bring in "their guys."

Thats just it .... if you keep getting rid of coaches & regimes then you keep giving the new regime a 3 year honeymoon period & then the most you ever become is mediocre.
A 3 year carousel of staff gets us nowhere.

Well....maybe if we ditch Henning it might get better....but I am not sold at all on Sparano. This team is not prepared to play week in and week out. We lose to the better teams with regularity and struggle against the dregs. Winning only one game at home is just ridiculous. The revolving door on the offensive line, both during the season and in the off season....it has to stop. The special teams obviously got no, or little, attention and the head coach has his share in the blame for that debacle. The players might love the guy...but is it because he is soft and lets them skate by?
