Ask Mike: Should the Dolphins make a play for WR Stallworth
Mike Berardino wrote: Q: What are the chances that the Dolphins would sign Donte Stallworth since Cleveland is releasing him? Sam, Parkland.
A: Interesting name and somebody out there will sign him, but I'm not sure about the Dolphins, despite their respect for former University of Tennessee players. He's only 6 feet tall, he has significant baggage and do you know how many times he's caught at least 60 balls in his seven-year career? Once, in 2005 with New Orleans. And he moved on to the Eagles after that season ended and Parcells protégé Sean Payton arrived from Dallas. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miam ... ?track=rss

Also, throwing this out there ... Armando Salguero wrote: Stallworth is not the answer for a team like Miami that usually avoids such mixtures of mediocre talent and high off-field risks. Plus Stallworth, at age 29 and two years removed from a football game, probably isn't No. 1 receiver material these days. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins ... -boon.html

I just dont think south florida is the place for him considering all that happened. I can see protesters outside the stadium during home games. There is still the opinion here that he got off way to easy. Hopefully he will resurrect his career maybe with a team on the west coast might be best.

Amen to that another +1 i hope we stay well clear of him,,,,,,,,, Stallworth to work out for unnamed team Wednesday Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 9, 2010 3:55 PM ET We don't have to wait until March 5 for free agency to kick off. We've got Donte' Stallworth! Since Stallworth was released by the Browns Monday, he is free to sign with any team immediatley. His agent Drew Rosenhaus tells the Boston Globe that an unnamed team will work Stallworth out Wednesday and should sign with a team "in the next couple weeks at the latest." "We are very pleased with the amount of teams interested," Rosenhaus said. Rosenhaus could be bluffing, but there should be interest if Stallworth is willing to work for relatively cheap. Stallworth signed a one-year, $3.6 million contract with New England in 2007 to help repair his image after it was learned he was in the league's substance abuse program. We'd be surprised if he gets that much on a one-year deal this time around. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/02/09/st allworth-to-work-out-for-unnamed-team-wednesday/?r elated=1

Re: Ask Mike: Should the Dolphins make a play for WR Stallworth
What if the Phins signed him cheap to add depth to the WR position and still pursue a legit #1 WR through Free agency or the draft? Could Stallworth be an upgrade over Camarillo or Hartline? I am just asking, I am a big Camarillo fan.

No thanks. Too much baggage and not the kind of receiver we need. Brandon Marshall.....yes. Boldin.....yes, but not for high picks or to break the bank....injury issues. Plaxico.....yes....he did something stupid....but he would be the caliber of player I think you should be willing to take the risk for.

Re: Ask Mike: Should the Dolphins make a play for WR Stallworth
You know....of all the WR's we have, I think we send Patrick Turner away first. As much as I dislike Ginn as a WR now, I would keep him as a return man. Bess is fine in the slot and actually looks to be improving with the development of Henne. Hartline looks to be a solid #2 receiver....an amazing find in the 4th round. Camarillo is fine for depth. We still lack a #1 receiver.....
I would not take a risk at all on Stallworth and would rather keep Camarillo.

If Stallworth is better than Hartline, Camarillo or Turner then you let one of them go to improve the depth and talent at the position. If the decide to use Ginn only as a return man or trade him then you need to fill that void at WR. I am not saying Stallworth is better than them, only asking the question that if he is more talented and can be added to the roster without breaking the bank, does it make sense to bring him in. The question is simple. Can adding Stallworth improve the WR position. I am not saying he is the answer to the need for a #1 WR only that he may improve the talent Miami currently has at 3, 4 & 5 on the depth chart.

Re: Ask Mike: Should the Dolphins make a play for WR Stallworth
Are there any receivers who might be available withoit any baggage? Seems like the orange jumpsuit might become the new nfl uniform. As for Stallworth ... Just like in the movies , its never a good idea to return to the scene of the crime.
