Quote:
Allen, 31, was arrested at 3:30 a.m. at Fifth Street and Alton Road, said Miami Beach police spokesman Detective Juan Sanchez.

He was given two breathalyzer tests, as required under Florida law. The result of one test showed his blood alcohol level at more than twice the legal limit of .08. The other test registered .152, according to Sanchez.

Just a little more info..

Yeah, this is Allen's first misdeamer, if I'm not mistaken, since being the NFL, and first since being a Dolphin. He's still our best CB, and he's one the leaders of the defense, if not THE leader.

Give the guy a pass.

He should be punished no doubt, but being as this is his first run in with the law, I don't think he should be cut, traded, or hung with a rope. I hope he learns his lesson here though.

I agree. Just be glad it did not turn into a Donte Stallworth type of deal.
PR - I usually agree with your posts but to give him a pass just tells him that what he did was OK. Seems like we give a pass out of conveniency depending on the uniform he wears or how valuable he is?
Anyway ... Alton Road ... these guys should just stay away from the beach.

That just happens to be what most drunk drivers "say" they drank. They would have to be big beers.

FINesse, Allen is a 31 year old guy who has been a great character guy for his whole career. I think he's smart enough to know that what he did was wrong, regardless of how the Dolphins/NFL handle it.

What I would be worried about though is the young guys on the roster who may not be so mature, and they will see it the way you said FINesse. That said, you're right. But I don't think a severe punishment is necassary.

I am. He's coming off an injury, Miami has replacements, and yet he thinks he has a free ride back to his starting position and drinks twice the limit and hops in a car. No person that stupid deserves a job, let alone multi million dollars.

I don't know about being cut, you can never have too many CBs. Either way, he's an idiot and one beer with dinner wouldn't amount to even .08. He should have called a cab.

I'd say a monetary fine from the NFL and a 2 or 4 game suspension would send a message. In reality though he will probably get off too easy.

The Dolphins do not like character issues that go public. I hope they take care of this in-house to where the NFL stays out of it. I think that will send a message more to the team if it comes from Parcells rather from than the NFL which everyone thinks is the No Fun League.

First off all, I dont condone drinking and driving period as anytime you do something like this, you risk human lives. However, to immediately cast judgement and crucify the guy and say to just cut him without thinking the decision through would be foolish.

I am sure that Parcells/Ireland/Sparano will deal with this accordingly. Allen is a person like all of us and is just as prone to making bad choices in life.

Again, I dont condone it and he should pay back some sort of debt and maybe that is going around and talking to others in public. You can never have too many advocates out trying to help prevent others from doing this, but unfortunately, every day, every hour, I am sure someone is driving drunk in this world and thats sad. He just happened to get caught and is a high profile guy.

Hope he learns from this bad choice because it wasnt a mistake, it was a choice.

I definitely don't condone it either. I think a lot of the fans forget that the mentality of risk-taking is far different for an NFL player than it is for us. To play the game of football where you have huge guys coming at you to rip your head off at incredibly fast speed takes a person willing to take more chances in life than a regular "Joe" like myself. Add alcohol on that.

I agree 100%. This story could have been a lot worse. While I expect and hope that he gets an appropriate punishment for his poor judgement, to suggest cutting him is just irrational.

thanks for adding to the discussion. We are discussing Will Allen driving while being under the influence of alcohol. As I agree that beating your wife is a very bad thing, that is not what Mr. Allen is accused of. Are there cases of people accused of driving while under the influence of (censored)? I'm not sure, since there is no way to test that I am aware of, but I would not doubt that there have been horrendous accidents while individuals were driving while under the infuence of (censored).

The effects of marijuana and alcohol are essentially the same on the brain. Both are depressants, and both are drugs that damage the brain. Studies show that the damage isn't significant, which is why alcohol is legal. However, I think both marijuana and alcohol should either be legal, or both be illegal. You can't argue for one and not the other...they are essentially the same. But if they are legal, I think the penalty for DUI's should be the revocation of the license for life. Make it a stiff penalty, and you'd see a lot less dumb decisions.

Back on topic, good job Bill...I'm proud of you.

You're in high school right now. You should know basic, fundamental arithmetic.

0.08 x 2 = 0.16

0.152 is LESS than 0.16

It's not his first run-in with the law.

Yes, he should have.

But one beer CAN register as very close to .08 on a breathalyzer. Two beers will for sure.

Quote:
Did you know that you could be charged with a DUI after having just one drink? It's absolutely true. And once you read this article, you'll understand why you could be at risk for a DUI and what you can do about it. "Just One" Cold Beer After a tiring day at the office you stop off at the local watering hole for just one cold beer. You don't want to be late for dinner so you finish your beer, throw some cash on the bar and leave. Two minutes later on your way home you make a right turn at busy intersection but… you forget to use your turn signal. The next thing you know there's a patrol car with flashing lights on top right behind you. With a sinking feeling in your gut you slowly pull off to the side of the road. As officer Miranda leans over to ask for your driver's license and registration, that wonderful hoppy smell of beer that you love so much hits his olfactory nerve and the next thing you know you are blowing into a breathalyzer. After just one beer you're sure you'll be well under the legal limit but you are horrified to see the results of the breathalyzer reading: .095. That's .015 over the legal limit which is .08 BAC (blood alcohol concentration) in all 50 states. Guess what. Your life is about to change.

You my friend obviously have never smoked a joint if you say marijuana and alcohol are essentially the same on the brain. Then to say it damages your brain??? Seriously get your facts straight first. http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/news ... mage-brain There goes your brain damage theory. If pot is injested orally and not smoked there are no known damages that it causes to your body. Unlike alcohol which ruins your liver.

My guess is that Ski censored his own post. It's not in the censored word list and I do not see any moderator activity to change it.

Everyone, do me a favor and start your "legalize pot" in an offtopic forum. I get tired of this never-ending argument that is clearly offtopic.

You need to get your facts straight. I said the damage isn't significant. Getting drunk or high kills thousands of brain cells, but humans have trillions of cells, so it's such a small fraction. The most damage is done before the brain has fully developed (usually age 21, some develop quicker, others slower) and that is why the drinking age is at 21. If the brain isn't fully developed, the frontal lobe never gets a chance to function, leading to poor decision making and reasoning.

Of course I haven't smoked in my life, and one does not need to to know their facts...
