Post When was the last time trading picks worked for the Phins?
Out of curiosity,

When was the last time the Dolphins traded a pick in the first 3 rounds that actually worked out? Surely it's happened since Ricky (if you can call that working out).

Also, when was the last time the Dolphins traded a pick in the first 3 rounds that fans were generally okay with? I know at least half this board, my self included, was okay with the Daunte Culpepper trade but generally against the AJ Feeley trade.

I can't think of one. Then again, I can't think of too many instances in which we actually traded a pick in the first 3 rounds.

Agreed on Ricky. His story seems that it will end very well for Ricky in the minds of football fans as a whole, and Dolphins fans as in specific, but I'm not sure that his whole history in Miami justifies 2 1st round picks. He caused a lot of heartache for this team and us fans, and his "retirement" was essentially the beginning of the quick route to 1-15 (though it certainly was caused by a whole host of factors intertwined in very complicated ways like poor drafting, non-football guys making football decisions, Dave Pornstache, CaMueller, etc), but he has been a model player since he returned via Nick Saban's suave recruiting skills (say what you will about Saban, but the man can recruit players) in both work ethic and production.

See first sentence of answer 1.

I too was in favor of Culpepper, and I'm not sure that his failure here was his fault entirely, but that doesn't change that we got hosed on that deal. I hated Feely too. We got hosed in that deal too.

But I have a bit more confidence in this team. They have made 2 or 3 big deals with FA players thus far (that we didn't already have), Wilford and Wilson in specific, and neither of those have been that great. But I still feel that whenthese guys choose, we have a pretty good shot at getting someone. Wilford didn't kill us like Wilson did, he just didn't do anything at all. Until it's apparent the Trifecta cannot choose FAs to save their lives, I'll give them some leeway. We have used FA to try and fill spots, not fill the roster. I don't see any reason to think that we have used FA irresponsibly, it just hasn't worked out that well for a couple of high profile signings.

Yea, I think when you trade 2 first round picks for one player you expect a loooong succesful relationship only hampered by injuries and not the love of a plant. I love Ricky Williams personally(I too am a close friend of Mary) and it does seem like he has some personal demons that have made him make some stupid decisions.

I think the Irving Fryer for a 2nd was a good deal.

I also think the Paul Warfield trade worked out nicely.

But too many misses when that's all I can think of off the top of my head at 5:30 in the morning.

I can't think of any in the first three rounds that have not already been mentioned. They dealt a 4th for Fasano and Ayodele. While not wildly successful, I would say those two combined did as much or more than the expectations of a 4th round guy seeing that they were starters and contributed.
