 Jonathan Martin
Martin by all accounts had a solid game today against the Bills. I really like what I saw from him in both his pass protection and in his run blocking. You can see his instincts are kicking in and he's playing much more naturally on the left side. If he has another strong performance like this against New England, then I think Ireland will have a very tough decision to make this offseason. No sense in paying an injury prone veteran who appears to be declining if you already have a replacement in house at 1/10th the cost.

 Re: Jonathan Martin
As much as I hate to say it....the entire OL looks better with Jake Long not there.

While I'm not sure if the stats would bear this, I think the o-line has been better as a unit these past few weeks. Martin has gotten better each week, and the run game has slowly come back. The guy got worked by Aldon Smith, but who doesn't have a bad game against that guy? Overall I've been very pleased with the performance of Martin.

The option to spend money at other positions is major for us. I think Jake is great but no longer specifically for our team

 Re: Jonathan Martin
Martin did a good job again today. But Garner is also playing very well at RT.

 Re: Jonathan Martin
Ya Garner is looking way better at the Tackle position than I remembered him being last year.

 Re: Jonathan Martin
I wanted them to move Long for draft picks or in trade before this season. Got to give credit to Ireland and company for the Martin pick....he was not intended to be our LT, but he is filling in nicely. Add some upper body strength and he will be fine.

That was the knock on this guy coming out of college. Most experts said he needed to stay in school another year and build some strength and put on weight. He has very few weaknesses in his technique. He just lacks the power to handle some of the stronger elite pass rushers like an Aldon Smith. But like you said, he's filling in nicely and if he's able to bulk up a little this offseason he'll be ready to go.

I think it's time to cut ties with Long at the end of the season. His replacement is already on the roster.
