A lot of people on the boards here have been calling for Ireland's head. I was curious who would you replace him with?

So who will it be? Parcels? Been there, done that. Muller? Ditto. The bottomline is a franchise QB, then Ireland will be a genius. Shanahan is back, Pete Corrol is a genius, and the Broncos made all the right moves in the offseason. All the sudden Andy Reid forgot to coach...no it's all about the QB and Reid went with the wrong one 2 years ago.

What about Polian? Is he too old?

Again, the only thing he has done is drafted Manning.

Bill Polian built those loaded Bills teams of the 90's

I agree, he's at least staying around one more year I think.

Eric DeCosta. Or David Caldwell. These 2 guys know good football players.

Both would be solid candidates. But at the end of the day Ross will have to determine if they're an upgrade over Ireland. If he doesn't think so, then he needs to stay the course.

The Jets reached out to ESPN analyst and former Colts president Bill Polian before hiring their general-manager search firm, but were turned down by Polian regarding any interest in replacing Mike Tannenbaum.

3 teams, 5 Super Bowl appearances.. I think he has more credibility than a lot of current GM's...

That being said I am all for keeping things the way they are. I am soo sick of changing every year, firing coaches, gm, hiring the next great one... I think just buckling down and seeing what this group can do with 3 good off seasons would be best. This is year 1, let them put a team together.
We are a 7 win team, all they need to do is find a way to win 3 or 4 more games each year.....

I'm pretty sure he'll be in the hall of fame some day. He had success with 3 different franchises.

Quote:
Polian was General Manager of the Panthers from 1994-1997. He tried to create the quickest Super Bowl winner in history, and nearly did so, building a team that went to the NFC Championship game in only its second year of existence. This feat led him to a promotion, becoming not just the GM, but the President of the Indianapolis Colts.

Pull a Pat Bolin.....make Marino and offer he can't refuse. Ireland is caustic. His personality is a my-way or the highway approach that sends talented people packing. His ego is far more important that righting the ship. Time for change...radical change.

I have no idea who would be a good GM.

I don't know how to build an airplane. Doesn't mean I can't recognize someone else who can't either. If a guy builds a plane that doesn't fly, I wouldn't give him a job as an aeronautical engineer.

PR , the time to hire you has passed. You should have been running the Ryan / Long draft.

With the kind of financial year Marino had most offers might be ones that he cannot refuse.

5 picks in the top 100 and 47 million to spend. Don't need to find a coach or a QB.

Please don't screw this up.

I always thought Saban should have grabbed Rodgers and kept Frerotte for a couple years while the kid learned.

We're in a pretty good position to improve, no doubt about that. But the big question is will we?

Rodgers would have never developed into the Aaron Rodgers he is today in Miami. First off he would have been the No. 2 overall pick & starting yr one. So no 3 yrs being torn down & rebuilt while standing behind a HOF QB. He is the one that Miami missed out on that I'm not thinking what if.

No, in fact, if we look carefully at what he is trying to do the past two years, he is trying to adjust his power football mentality to the newer style of football that is winning these days. From his head coach to his drafting of players to fit the new philosophies. My guess is, without even knowing the changes, that we will be a 9/10 win team next year. We played one game better than I thought we'd be this year.

there is no reason we can't be a wildcard next year

Yes there can. We're going to have a boatload of new rookies and potentially new incoming free-agents. That takes time to mesh and build chemistry. I expect more of the same next year with Year 3 being when they have to put it all together.

There are reasons we could be a 9/10 win team, and there are reasons we won't. But at the end of the day it all depends on your view of this staff, their systems, the current talent on the roster, and whether or not you think our GM can acquire more talent. I have faith that with all of the draft picks, and all of the cap space, that we're primed to improve.

I agree with you Rock that we're going to get younger. But I think we're going to also get more experienced at the most important position, which is quarterback. Tannehill has a full year under his belt. Going into next year he'll be the unquestioned starter, and that makes a difference. I think as long as we pay attention to the o-line and receiver corps that Tannehill will take a big step forward and we'll improve as an offense next year.

I don't think we'll be a top ten offense by any stretch of the imagination, nor will Tannehill be a top ten quarterback, but I do expect to see us in the middle of the pack. I think we could become a top ten unit and Tannehill could be a top ten quarterback eventually, but we're a couple of years away.

The Dolphins only hope is if Mike Sherman and Joe Philbin can have more influence over Jeff Ireland's decisions.

I agree with Dave. There is no reason.
We will have new players. Everyone does. The coaching staff is in place. The systems are in place. 75% of the players will be returning.

If we don't win 10 games in 2013, there will be plenty of reasons we hear. But we won't hear that it is due to the fact that we added rookies and free agents to our roster.
