 Ryan Tannehill excelling in play-action
ESPN wrote: Ryan Tannehill excelling in play-action
If you give Ryan Tannehill an effective running game, he will carve up opposing defenses with his arm. That is one of the biggest lessons the Miami Dolphins should take from Tannehill's solid rookie season.
According to ESPN Stats and Information, Tannehill has completed 67.1 percent of his passes off play-action this season. That is the highest completion percentage in the AFC East, which includes Pro Bowl quarterback Tom Brady.
Tannehill also has six touchdowns off play-action passes compared to just one interception. His QBR is an impressive 90.2, and Tannehill averages 10.33 yards per attempt.
Miami's running game has picked up down the stretch, which is why it's no surprise the same can be said for Tannehill's numbers. The 2012 first-round pick is a good athlete who can make all the throws. Tannehill is simply lacking experience and a better supporting cast.
The Dolphins have plenty of cap room and draft picks to fix their problems. The biggest issue for Miami should be to make sure Tannehill gets all the support he needs next year to be successful. http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/ ... lay-action

Love - his arm Love - his accuracy love - his mobility like - his decision making like - his PA fake hate - his penchant for staring down the quick target leading to batted balls
Under the wish he'd do better catagory - He'll often take the quick throw rather than waiting for something big to develop. I'm sure he's being coached that way but there's a few deep balls he leaves on the table. Gotta take a few more shots.

Like I've been saying .... as the running game goes, so does Tannehill.

When we're able to run the ball consistenly, the play action works, and our rookie quarterback is able to have some success. But when the run game goes away, and our rookie quarterback is forced to throw to his sub-par group of receivers all game long, he struggles. Weird.

Everyone was saying it yesterday, the receivers struggle to get open consistently. Part of that is the o-line's faulty protection and part of it is the speed of the game for Tannehill. The play action buys them an extra second and good things happen.

And teams only respect the run when you're able to consistenly run the ball. If the Dolphins want to have future success with play action, then we need to seriously address the o-line issues this offseason. We could honestly use 2-3 new faces up front. Pouncey and Martin are the only two I'd keep at this point. Incognito I'm 50/50 on. He could stay or go depending on how our staff feels about him. But Jerry and Garner need to be upgraded.
