Well, it is voluntary, but a team leader would be there.

Adam Beasley wrote:
Veteran safety Reshad Jones has decided to skip this week’s voluntary minicamp, raising serious questions about whether he will be on the roster when the season begins in September.

Jones is the highest-paid player on the team, having survived (for now) the roster purge. He is due $13 million in base salary with a cap hit of $17.1 million and $25.1 million in dead money, making him nearly impossible to cut without a June 1 designation.

But the Dolphins have real options after June 1, particularly via trade. They would have just $4 million in dead money by moving him — assuming someone wants to take on his contract.

Flores said there are several factors why Jones is not here, and rehabbing his shoulder (which needed surgery in February) is one of them. Flores added that Jones has been in all of the meetings, but it is telling that either the player or team (or both) thought it prudent not to put him on the practice field.

“Him and I have been in constant communication,” Flores said, who declined comment when asked if Jones wants out.

“He’s here, he’s part of the organization,” Flores said. “He made a decision to train somewhere else. It’s voluntary.”

Flores added that Jones’ decision was not based on his roster status.

Xavian's eager for a new deal, but he showed up.

Dolphins CB Xavien Howard reported for the first day of offseason workouts. Entering the final year of his rookie deal, there was some thought Howard would hold out in search of an extension which makes him the highest-paid corner in the league, but it does not look like that will happen. ESPN's Cameron Wolfe reported the Dolphins discussed a long-term deal with Howard's reps in February. It would not be surprising if the two sides come to an agreement before Week 1.

So, is Grier lying like Gase here or telling the truth? When it comes to Reshad Jones, I just cannot get over that he quit on us last year when we needed him. I understand that Burke had him out of position last year, but situations like this reinforce what he did and tarnish a player whom I used to enjoy watching every Sunday.

Speaking Wednesday, Dolphins GM Chris Grier said S Reshad Jones has not requested a trade and will not be dealt by the team. "Reshad's going to be here," Grier stated. For now, Jones is not there, as he skips voluntary workouts. But Grier said Jones has expressed no desire to leave at this point. Jones carries the team's largest cap hit at over $17 million, but Miami can afford it obviously with no other real stars on the roster. Jones, 31, is signed for three more seasons at hefty salaries.
