2014 Dolphins Draft Picks
First off, I would like to wish all of the Phinfever Family a very Happy Easter. As we continue to work our way towards the 2014 NFL Draft, teams continue to work on getting their draft board together and bring potential draft prospects in for visits, Miami included.
The last few weeks, the Dolphins have been very active in regards to bringing wide receivers in to the Davie complex for visits. Donte Moncrief of Ole Miss, Martavis Bryant of Clemson, Marqise Lee of Southern Cal have been to the Davie complex the last few weeks. Now, there is news that Odell Beckham of LSU will be at the Davie complex for a visit on Friday & Saturday.
The swirl of the number of wide receivers that have been at the Davie complex has caused a lot of stir about Miami looking to replace Mike Wallace, and CBSSports.com reporter Jascon LaCanfora has been stating the the Dolphins have been looking to trade Wallace now for a few months. Recently, a report from the Palm Beach Post came out recently about Brian Hartline possibly being released after the 2014 season. He is coming off a torn PCL, and the Dolphins would save 4 million dollars on the cap by releasing him after the 2014 season. In my view, it is Hartline and WR Brandon Gibson, also coming off a knee injury that are the ones that will be released or moved on.
Most of the talk about the Dolphins and their 1st round pick has been around the offensive line and OL Zack Martin of Notre Dame. Most feel that if he is there at #19, the Dolphins will take him, and that is understandable. Miami still has work to do on the offensive line, and Martin would fill a huge hole at ORT. Moses Morgan of Virginia and Cyrus Kouandijo of Alabama have also been linked with Miami. But I believe this draft is DEEP on the OL, and the Dolphins can get a quality ORT into the 3rd-4th round, and a name to watch is ORT Michael Schofield of Michigan. I have been in the minority that believe the Dolphins will take a hard look at C.J Mosely, the outstanding ILB from Alabama. There is no doubt in my mind that the Dolphins want to restructure the LB group. There has been a lot of talk of moving Koa Misi inside and moving Darnelle Ellerbe to his natural OLB position. A player to keep your eye on is Arizona State OLB/DE Car Bradford. Miami has had him in and while he has not played a lot at ILB, he has the makeup and physical ability. At 6'2, 250 lbs, Bradford is very aggressive and physical and a hitter with good movement skills. He could be a 3rd round pick at ILB along with Shayne Skov of Stanford.
With the activity the Dolphins have shown at the wide receiver position the past few weeks, this is the 1st time I have seriously considered the Dolphins possibly taking a wide receiver in the 1st round, and it does make sense with Hartline and Gibson coming off of knee injuries and not knowing if and when they will be ready for camp. Odell Beckham is one of the most, if not THE most complete wide receiver in this draft. He can run all the routes, has very solid hands, and has return ability as well. He is a playmaker, something the Dolphins are looking for.
Could Beckham be the pick at #19. Possibly. You can never have enough playmakers.
