2015 Dolphins Draft Picks
The Miami Dolphins travel to Green Bay this Sunday for a 1 PM game against the Packers. Vegas has the Dolphins as 10 point underdogs with a 47.5 over/under. In short, they think Green Bay will pound them.
Miami is coming off a pathetic offensive showing at home versus the Jets. They couldn't muster more than two field goals. Brock Osweiler is trending in the wrong direction and Adam Gase is riding 35 year old Frank Gore rather than featuring Kenyan Drake. Devante Parker is back on the injury report with knee issues. Reshad Jones' mysterious self benching coupled with Gase's shot at defensive coordinator Matt Burker was the cherry on top this week. This is setting up to be a disaster. Originally I thought Miami needed to be 6-4 heading into the bye for a shot at the playoffs and that would mean winning this game. Fortunately the imploding Jacksonville Jaguars may offer that chance in December rather than praying Miami can pull off this stunning upset.
Miami struggles against good QBs and Aaron Rodgers is among the best ever. He is not going to throw multiple interceptions to bail out Miami's defense. If anything he'll evade the rush, buy time and carve up the secondary who will be asked to do too much this week. The Packer offense ranks 6th in yards and 14th in points scored. They don't have a threatening ground game but Rodgers will more than make up for that with his receiving weapons which include Jimmy Graham, Geronimo Allison, Randall Cobb and of course the dominant Davante Adams. Adams already has 58 catches and 7 TDs on the season. Xavien Howard will need his A game to slow him down.
While Green Bay's defense is meh at best (16th in yards allowed, 21st in points allowed) are we to expect that Miami will generate anything against them? Their rushing defense is the Achilles heel so just maybe Miami's backs can help move the chains. But I imagine they'll force Osweiler to throw the ball and that will result in plenty of dead drives. Even Miami reporters are writing about Osweiler's continued inconsistent practices with bad accuracy. So much for that breath of fresh air from a month ago.
Miami only wins this game if Rodgers has a bad day and Jakeem Grant creates very short fields via the return game. Burke is coaching for his job and going up against Rodgers is probably the last thing he needs to save it. I looked up the forecast for Green Bay and it will be a chilly 37 degrees on Sunday. They are expecting snowfall out there tomorrow.
Again, this just has the makings of a disaster which will open the door for reevaluation and change during the bye week. The Packers are coming off consecutive road losses to the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots. They'll be playing angry and trying to save their playoff hopes as they sit at 3-4-1 on the season. Expect a blood bath.
