The Dolphins concluded their 2014 NFL Draft by selecting Marist DE Terrence Fede.  At 6'3, 276 lbs, Fede ran a 4.76 40 at the Bufalo Pro Day.  Had 13 sacks in 2013, and finished his career with 30.5 sacks.  Concerns are about his level of competition and he may have to make the conversion to an OLB in a 3-4 scheme, something Miami uses on occassions.  Has initial quickness to beat college OT, but needs to develop more pass rush moves, as his quickness will be handled by NFL tackles as his quickness is his calling card.

WHAT HE BRINGS
At 6-foot-4 and 267 pounds, Fede has the frame and strength to hold up against the run. He was a productive pass-rusher at Marist and shows some bend rushing off the edge. He now needs to show he can adjust to the speed at the NFL level, but he's worth taking a chance on this late in this draft.

NFL DRAFT SCOUT

NFL DRAFT SCOUT DRAFT ANALYSIS **

STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES

STRENGTHS:
Good size to serve as a situational pass rusher. Quick off the line and good speed to close on the quarterback. Good agility testing at Buffalo's pro day: 4.76-second 40-yard dash, 7.13 3-cone drill. Has displayed solid coverage skills.

WEAKNESSES:
ignificant level of competition concerns. Lacks bulk on his 6-3 frame and may need to transition to OLB. Needs to develop deeper array of pass-rush moves to be effective at the next level; First step good enough to beat college level of competition but NFL offensive tackles will be able to handle his first move.

OVERVIEW

"Fede is the first player ever drafted from Marist. Rik Smits, who played in the NBA, this is his alma mater. The Miami Dolphins did their homework with Fede and decided that he fit better with their scheme than others who are still on the board from bigger schools." -- Charles Davis
