Just heard the Dolphins traded #3 to SF for #12, a 3rd Rounder, and a 2022 1st Rounder, and a 2023 1st Rounder.

Anyone have proof?

Wow. If all of this is true we're getting a haul of picks.

Schefter and Rapoport are tweeting about it. It's legit.

So Grier turned Laremy Tunsil, Kenny Stills, a 4th Rounder, and a 6th Rounder, into, So Far, 4 -1st Rounders, 2 -2nd Rounders, and a 3rd Rounder.

I'd say Jimmy Garoppolo is gone from the 49ers.

Also, this probably takes them out of the Sam Darnold sweepstakes, or, the Jets intend to keep Darnold and use the 2nd pick on a different position.

What I love most about this is how Miami has set themselves to move all around next year's draft too.

Finally, I'd say Miami is not in love with one of the WRs or Penei Sewell. Would not be shocked at all if Najee Harris is the pick at 12.

I've read that the 49ers were quietly shopping Jimmy Garoppolo.

Word up here is New England is still trying to get him. I think he could still do well with McDaniels if he stays healthy.

I wouldn't be surprised if they keep Garoppolo and draft Lance and sit him for the year.

Just for kicks, this would be my immediate, poorly thought out starter to a mock:

1. Jax - Trevor Lawrence

2. Jets - Zach Wilson

3. SF - Trey Lance (yup, word is Atlanta is hot on Lance so SF went bananas to jump them)

4. Atl - Justin Fields (very good consolation prize, brings the young man home)

5. Cin - Penei Sewell

6. Phi - Jamarr Chase

7. Det - Rashawn Slater

8. Car - Kyle Pitts (I bet they flip a pick for Sam Darnold)

9. Den - Patrick Surtain II (also a good trade spot)

10. Dal - Jaycee Horn

11. NYG - Devonta Smith

I'll leave you guys hanging with this one because I want to digest the options

Not sure I like trading back up to 6 unless you are in love with one of Chase, Smith or Pitts.

I laid out my case for not taking Smith this early in another thread. His dodgy antics about not working out and weigh ins have me even more concerned.

Pitts is a freak but will he be fast enough to be mentioned with the likes of Calvin or Andre Johnson?

Pauline mentioned yesterday that some decision makers in Miami are not too hot on taking guys that opted out of 2020. Is that smoke or have they soured on someone like Chase for not playing?

So, as of this second, the net effect is Miami traded #3 and #123 for #6, #156, a 2022 3rd Rounder, and a 2023 1st Rounder?

I think?

:clap

Update that hourly, please! Honestly, I love this. It was all about getting future draft capital and staying in a position to get who they want. These moves check both boxes nicely.

Want to throw one more crazy wrinkle into this?

Word is circulating that teams see Mac Jones as worthy of a top 10 pick AND that next year's QB crop is meh at best.

If QBs go 1 thru 4 and the Bengals sit tight at 5 for an OT, guess who is in a prime position to create a bidding war for Mac Jones with both Detroit and Carolina (QB needy teams) picking right after them.

I may need a beer to rest my mind.

What a fun day!!

I hope Miami is holding pick 6 to gain even more capital for the future and we get Pitt's or Waddle a few picks later.

Or....wouldn't it be fun if they are intentionally blocking the Pats from getting a QB???

I'm with you jammer. Chris Simms is now saying Mac Jones to SF at #3. Evidently Shanahan loves the kid.

Yah yah yah. Chris Simms. I get it. But where there's smoke... And frankly the farther away he is from talking head conventional wisdom concerning QB's, the more often he's proven right.

Don't count CHI out from moving heaven and earth to get to #6 from #20 if a QB they like is there.

Riverboat Ron at #19 too.

Like I said, Miami is playing with House money. They absolutely had to trade down. There was no better option. Tailor made for the position Miami is in.

I was pretty happy to get back up to 6, because at 6 we can still probably get the same guy they wanted at 3. We still will probably have our choice of at least three out of these five: Sewell, Pitts, Waddle, Smith, and Chase, assuming that three QBs are taken in the top 5. I would have liked to get another second rounder this year, but we did get another first in 2023 out of it.

I never know whether to believe this kid but Neal Driscoll (who is a PFN guy) is saying he was told Miami is focused on Jamarr Chase

Their moves today plus the "people in Miami might not like someone who opted out" possibly being a diversion would really add up to something like this.

Have to ask yourself if you really believe Chase is a game changer at WR worthy of that pick. Right now I don't know.

I think the fact that they traded back up to 6 means they want one of those receivers, and they are satisfied with more than one of them. If Chase is the one they really want, then while it was slightly risky to trade out of #3, given that the consolation prize will be either Pitts, Waddle, or Smith, I guess they thought it was worth it. They certainly didn't trade up to #6 for a QB, defensive player, or RB. If they wanted Sewell, they probably would have stayed at #3. If they would be content with Darrisaw or Slater, they could have stayed at 12. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in Dolphins headquarters while those trades were discussed.

I liked our position at #12 with a second 1st Rounder on 2022 better.

But, if the right player is available at #6, the price may turn out to be right to trade out again. Grier put himself in a position to have that option.

Not a bad random March Friday.

Interesting that they didn't try talking to the Jets.

I hope they do.

Unless the target is Pitts I just don't see why you have to spend the 6th pick on a WR when similar skillsets can be found on Day 2.

I'll be disappointed if they traded a future 1st to move up for a WR.

I think it's Pitts unless someone puts a "Godfather" deal together to come up and get a QB at #6, like they did at #3.

If nothing else, Pitts up the seam guarantees single coverage outside. And that's using him as a dummy. If he's one-on-one, who's covering him? He's a better Darren Waller than Darren Waller, and no one covers him.

This better be ammunition for Watson because if not, all they got from trading out of the 3rd overall, a pick that was supposedly a valuable commodity for QB seeking clubs, was a third rounder next year and in two years a first rounder.

It sounds exciting for draftniks to think they have 5 first rounders in the next 3 years, but they already had four, 2 first rounders this year, one next year and one in two years. Now they have 5 by adding the ’niners ’23 first rounder. Swapping the first rounder in ’22 may be a loss in value if the ‘niners end up with a better record, but all this won’t matter to Houston who will be looking for trading chips in return and Miami has loaded up on it.

If they get Watson the minimal gains won’t be so minimal then. If this isn’t for Watson, then these guys will have to make better decisions with those pics but most of all, they better be right about Tua.

It is pretty obvious this was NOT about getting ammunition for Watson. If so, they would not have traded up from #12 to #6, and they would have kept that extra first rounder next year.

Quit dreaming about Watson and such. It isn't going to happen, and you are setting yourself up for disappointment. We are building through the draft. Even Fuller is a one-year rental. No saviour is coming from the outside. Get over it.

Another way to look at it is that by moving back 3 spots, they put themselves in position to get the player they wanted in the first place while adding another first and third round pick in the future, giving them capital to work with to either continue to build or find a new QB. There's nothing not to like about that in my opinion.

And mark my words, Grier's not done.

This is interesting too. Copied from a Twitter post using my phone so, this is the best I can do...

"Financial side of it:

No. 3 makes $32,415,769 with a guarantee of $21,595,105

No. 6 makes $25,576,601 with a guarantee of $16,621,164

So Grier gained an extra 1st for 2023, an extra 3rd for 2022 and saved money while he was at.

Grier truly is play chess not checkers. #finsup"
