Overview:

Versatile defensive back with good size, above-average instincts and impressive ball skills. Holland plays with good pattern recognition and anticipation underneath. He has the ball greed and competitiveness to make contested catches a challenge for opponents. He's willing and able in run support near the line of scrimmage, giving him value as a big nickel, but he lacks recovery burst and will struggle if he's matched one-on-one with speed from the slot. He has the football IQ and ball skills to handle split-safety duties but needs to continue fine-tuning his tackling technique. His added value as a punt returner should push him up the board a few spots.

I wasn't laughing. fbomb

Still, at this point, I don't think the Dolphins would have drafted Williams anyways.

You can literally second guess every move….and do. You can’t control what other teams do. Drafting 3rd in the second you figure you’ll probably get what you want but Denver threw a curve ball. That’s why teams have a large board so they can adapt to what is available. You can’t always be trading up every time for fear of your guy not being there. See how the Pats stood at 15 and didn’t panic? Sometimes you get your 1A choice and sometimes it’s your 1B.
We handed in our pick fairly quickly which tells me that they already knew who they wanted and there is a good chance it wasn’t Williams, but we will never know.

Look...I knew when running backs were going to go...it was not hard to predict. If we take Harris or Etienne at 18, fine. But you knew what was coming. They have draft capital to move up too.

This draft is deep with running backs. I think they likely figure they can get a good one like Carter or Sermon, later in the draft.

Looks like we started a little run on Safties. Three Safeties and a Corner taken halfway through round two and we kicked it off.

I'll be surprised if they draft a RB tonight.

I just think they believe they can throw a pile of dog pooh out there and it will perform. If they were going to draft a TE, then they should not have traded out of No. 3 and drafted the best TE prospect ever, but Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

This guy is pretty good but I'm leary of all defenders out of Oregon after Dion Jordan.

I think we're really going to like this kid, and you won't hear him requesting a trade out of town when Flores moves him around between safety, nickel, and the blitz as we did from a former player who tried to steal the "magic" nickname.

Dave Hyde wrote:
2. The drafting of Holland also suggests coach Brian Flores wants a hand-picked player back there. It also is an investment to cover up the botched handling of Minkah Fitzpatrick. As it is, some safety’s job is in peril and it looks like veteran Bobby McCain. You don’t spend a second-round pick on a player — the 36th overall — just to fill out depth. He’s coming in to take a job —and to a fill a job, too. The comparison for Holland is recently retired New England safety Patrick Chung. He ran their defensive secondary and played various roles. Considering the Dolphins took Holland so high, he must be expected to fill an important role.

This is actually a very good video of Jevon Holland. It starts out with a couple of highlights, but it is about who he is. He looks to be a very intelligent player with a good heart. I think he can be a leader on this defense ... and he has great hands and instincts for the ball.

Converted receiver.

Barry Jackson (Miami Herald) wrote:
▪ Safety Jevon Holland, the Dolphins’ other second-round pick, intercepted nine passes during his final two seasons at Oregon and said there’s a reason he’s good at that.

“I played receiver in high school a lot and that’s where I developed a lot of my ball skills,” he said. “I feel like I have a good sense of how the ball trajectory is going to be in the sky, and I definitely think that added to my ball skills and ball-hawking ability.”
