Four years for about $41 million, with $28 million guaranteed. I guess that's par for the course, though I am still getting used to the size of these deals. I am sure the hope is that he grows into this contract -- I don't think he is there yet.

Edit: I see that East already posted about this about the same time I did. Sorry for the duplication.

I definitely agree, and Baker was very good last year. The arror is still "up" on what he can do, too.

Dolphins signed LB Jerome Baker to a three-year, $39 million contract extension. Baker has posted 100 tackles in consecutive seasons and registered seven sacks last year. That mark was a career-high for the 24-year-old. Baker also added three pass defenses and two forced fumbles in 2020. Still relatively young, Baker has the potential to continue improving and the Dolphins were willing to buy into that early with a hefty extension. Now their eyes will be set on getting a deal done with Emmanuel Ogbah, who racked up nine sacks last year and is entering the final season of his current contract.

He's one of the first lbs from his class to get an extension. Once more of them do, his contract may very well look like a good deal for the team.

That's what we said about X. Howard. Two years later he has outplayed his deal and he wants to renegotiate the contract!

Baker is ‘relatively young’ at 24 years old and 3 seasons into the NFL? I’d hate to see what this guy defines as relatively old. What does that make Brady at 43? Relatively alive?

If it’s green, it’s certainly clean.

Here's an update of the contract.

Barry Jackson (Miami Herald) wrote:
▪ Jerome Baker’s contract extension raised his 2021 cap number from $2.7 million to $4.3 million. His cap numbers for the following three years are $9.7 million, $11.9 million and $14.3 million, according to Overthecap’s Jason Fitzgerald. The deal included a $5.5 million signing bonus.
